Prior to the game’s release, CD Projekt Red announced that the then-upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 would include a multiplayer mode of some kind post-launch. This was later changed into becoming its own spin-off – a spin-off which was ultimately cancelled. That said, it appears as though the in-development sequel will be finally implementing multiplayer, with new job listings all-but-confirming the feature.
As reported by the publication CheatHappens, CD Projekt Red recently published a job listing looking for a ‘Lead Quest Programmer’ to work on ‘Cyberpunk 2’.
Described as “an important role within the project”, one of the ‘nice to haves’ included in the job description asks for an “understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests,” suggesting that the game will include real-time multiplayer of sorts.
This is not the first time that CDPR have acknowledged multiplayer with regards to Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, as other job listings from back in April similarly made reference to multiplayer and online functionalities.
While Cyberpunk 2077 is a vastly improved experience when compared to its initial launch state, the game is still missing plenty of features which were announced/teased prior to the game’s release.
With the success of the first game, and the goodwill earned thanks to its continued support, here’s to hoping that Cyberpunk 2078 (or whatever it winds up being called) manages to make good on all the missing features from the first game.
