Marvel Rivals Fans Call Melee DPS And Vanguards “Unplayable” In Season 2.5

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 is finally here, meaning the dive meta has been officially nerfed into the ground.
  • However, a new flying meta seems to have replaced it, spurred on byt the strength of Iron Man, Storm, and new healer Ultron.
  • It’s already furstrating some fans, who are now calling melee DPS and tanks “unplayable” due to a lack of options.

Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 is finally here, and NetEase has addressed some of the key concerns that were an issue in Season 2. For starters, pretty much every dive character has had their kneecaps broken, and more oppressive, unkillable characters like Iron Fist and Captain America are a lot more manageable. Sounds pretty good, but the arrival of Ultron may have replaced dive with something a lot worse.

Despite being less than a couple of days into the new season, a new meta seems to be emerging that has rendered almost half of the game’s roster essentially useless. Ultron is actually a pretty decent healer, despite pre-release concerns, while Storm and Iron Man are both very strong as DPS right now, meaning the flying meta threat that has always lingered in the background has finally arrived. Throw the Jeff-nado in there and games are pure chaos.

Marvel Rivals Fans Call Melee DPS And Vanguards “Unplayable” In Season 2.5

In a recent post on the Marvel Rivals subreddit, made by a user called StagnantSweater21, fans have already begun voicing their complaints about the strength of fliers this season. One user called U51_krab thinks that “melee heroes are unplayable” due to the current meta, while a fellow Magik main admits they “gotta hang up the sword” due to all the fliers.

Now, a lot of these complaints could be coming from dive players who are now angry that they can’t demolish everyone they can see in a tenth of a second, but the players I really feel for are the Vanguards out there. Hawkeye, Punisher, and Hela are DPS characters that can realistically deal with fliers, but there are practically zero Vanguards that have decent anti-air capabilities.

Peni Parker and Magneto are ranged tanks, but healers can easily keep up with the damage they put out. It’s led to many calls for NetEase to start giving the role some “love”, as well as urgent calls for a flying Vanguard of some kind, claiming that “the design team is not on the ball” if one isn’t in the works.

Even just a couple of days into the season, fans are pleading with NetEase to “never let this game have a flier meta ever again”, which should just about clue you in as to how games are going at the moment. Personally, as long as I don’t have to be hounded by an Iron Fist ever again, NetEase can do what it pleases.
