Marvel’s Blade may never see the light of day as the long-awaited game faces a potential threat to its development. The team at Arkane Studios first announced the ambitious project three years ago.

According to a new report from French outlet Le Monde, Microsoft is actively attempting to secure a buyer or partner for the developer ahead of the legal deadline. Under French labor laws, Microsoft must search for a prospective buyer before proceeding with any potential studio closure or restructuring.

Arkane Lyon now faces a critical deadline of November 13, 2026, to finalize a takeover deal. While several potential buyout options remain under consideration, failure to secure a partner by the mid-November cutoff puts both the studio’s future and Marvel’s Blade at severe risk.

Arkane Studios faces November deadline as 217 jobs hang in the balance

Besides Marvel’s Blade, a total of 217 jobs are also at risk at Arkane Studios. Notably, the latest updates haven’t come directly from the developer but from its sole representative trade union, Printemps Écologique.

As for the game, Microsoft is actively seeking a partner to support the “next phase of development and enable the commercialization of the [Marvel’s Blade] project.” Known for acclaimed games such as Dishonored and Deathloop, Arkane initially teased the title during 2023’s The Game Awards event.

According to an official description, the game focuses on Eric Brooks. He is a “legendary Daywalker, half-man, half-vampire” in the story. Marvel was promoting the project as a “mature, single-player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris.” The game didn’t receive a release window.

The latest update on Blade is disheartening for fans. Earlier this year, Marvel’s solo MCU movie was scrapped after years of radio silence about its development. Mahershala Ali was set to play the titular character in the film. Now, the video game appears to be heading toward a similar fate. Fans will hope that Arkane finds a buyer before next month’s deadline.
