If you love an underrated indie gem, Humble’s latest bundle should be right up your street. The Team 17: Chains of Command bundle packs in eight of developer Team 17’s indie offerings, including the Resident Evil and Dark Souls-inspired WW1 survival horror Conscript, for as little as $20 / £15.06. So, whether you’re a fan of hyper-realistic FPS games, chaotic party titles, or claustrophobic horrors, there’s something in this bundle for you.
Despite being inspired by old-school Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and even Dark Souls, Catchweight Studio’s Conscript is one of the most underrated (and unique) horror games on Steam. Set in WW1, this claustrophobic pixelated horror follows a lone French soldier fighting to survive the brutal Battle of Verdun. You must navigate the battle’s twisted labyrinth of trenches, fending off enemy soldiers, scavenging for limited supplies, and solving complex puzzles to survive the horrifying conflict and find your MIA brother.
Conscript truly feels like an old-school horror game; its oppressive sound and level design make for an unsettling and tense atmosphere throughout. Speaking to PCGamesN in 2023, developer Jordan Mochi described the top-down horror as a “big mix of like a lot of the different Resident Evils.” Where Resident Evil has “crawling monsters,” however, Conscript’s terrors have their foundation in reality. “You don’t need a metaphor,” Mochi told us. “If you study the history well enough, it’s terrifying. It’s horrific.”
If you’ve got the nerve, we can’t recommend Conscript enough for horror and history fans. Now is the perfect time to try it too, as Humble is offering Conscript and 7 more great Team 17 indies for as little as $20 / £15.06 in its Team 17: Chains of Command bundle. Considering buying the games in this bundle separately would cost you an eye-watering $203 / £153.33, this Humble Bundle is an absolute steal.
Conscript isn’t the only brilliant game in this bundle either, it’s an eclectic mix of unique indie gems. Here’s the full list:
- Conscript
- Hell Let Loose
- Classified: France ’44
- Thymesia
- Warcana
- Narita Boy
- Honey, I Joined a Cult
- King of the Castle
Hell Let Loose is a realistic WW2 FPS that throws you into huge, 100-player battles filled with infantry, tanks, and artillery. With a focus on strategy and teamwork over kills, this shooter is well worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre. Staying in the same war game vein, Classified: France ’44 is a turn-based strategy game, set in WW2 during the months leading up to the Allied invasion of France. You control an elite team of Allied commandos and resistance fighters battling behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied France.
If you’re looking for a real challenge, the soulslike Thymesia is sure to scratch that itch, as this grueling action RPG sees you harnessing the power of the plague to take down formidable enemies. King of the Castle also provides a challenge, albeit a very different one. This political party game is reminiscent of Game of Thrones, as the goal is essentially “try and kill your loved ones as sneakily as you can”. If you wear the crown, you must try to keep it on your head while keeping your head. If you’re not, well, you can either be loyal to your king or try to take them out by whatever means you see fit.
For something a bit different entirely, it’s well worth checking out fantasy RTS card battler Warcana, which sees you going head-to-head against other mighty magicians and their armies. If retro is more your thing, Narita Boy offers a pixelated 80s techno tale that emphasises the importance of arcade games heritage.
My personal recommendation, though, is the hilarious Honey, I Joined a Cult. This tongue-in-cheek management sim is a bit like Cult of the Lamb, without the combat, and sees you building and managing your own (you guessed it) cult. You need to keep your weird and wonderful cultists fed, watered, and dedicated, while continuing to grow your following (and funds). Just avoid drinking the Kool-Aid, ok?
You have until Thursday, May 29, 2025 to buy this bundle. As with all Humble Bundles, this one is helping raise money for charity and in this case, it’s The Global Foodbanking Network (GFN), which aims to unite and advance food banks.
