Naughty Dog Working on New Unannounced Game

Summary

  • Neil Druckmann is working on a new Naughty Dog IP while also managing Intergalactic and the TLoU adaptation.
  • Druckmann is shifting from his one-game focus to juggle multiple projects, one possibly being an Uncharted spin-off.
  • Speculation suggests Naughty Dog may unveil the mystery IP soon, hinting at a possible upcoming major gaming event.

Neil Druckmann has announced that he’s working on an unannounced Naughty Dog IP while also actively involved in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Having recently directed a new episode of HBO’s The Last of Us, Druckmann clearly has a packed schedule. He’s been a key figure in Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, continues to collaborate closely with HBO on the live-action TLoU adaptation, and now, he’s revealed there’s even more in the pipeline.

Previously, Druckmann said he prefers to focus on one game at a time before considering the next. This comment came back in February when he was asked about the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3. He explained that game development is “all-consuming,” so he directs his full attention to the project at hand rather than looking ahead. Now, however, it seems Druckmann is pushing his limits by juggling multiple projects at once, two of which are AAA titles at Naughty Dog.

‘Ignore It’ Neil Druckmann Gave Intergalactic Lead Advice on Dealing With Online Negativity

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet director Neil Druckmann is “boot-camping” the game’s lead actress to handle vitriol and hate online.

Speaking with Press X to Continue podcast’s host Steffan Powell, The Last of Us creator revealed that another unannounced IP is in development at Naughty Dog alongside Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. While Druckmann avoided revealing any specific details about the mystery title, he noted that his role is more of a producer, an “executive” in the room, rather than the primary director. His main focus still appears to be Intergalactic, though even on that project, he mentioned working with several directors.

Naughty Dog’s Mysterious New IP Could Be an Uncharted Spin-Off

Earlier this year, movie and video game insider Daniel Richtman leaked more The Last of Us Part 3 information, along with rumors about a possible second new IP in development at Naughty Dog. He also claimed that the unannounced project is being directed by Shaun Escayg, best known for his work on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Combined with Druckmann’s recent comments, this has fueled speculation that Naughty Dog’s next game could be an Uncharted spin-off.

According to the same leaker who first mentioned Naughty Dog’s unannounced game, the mysterious IP has been in development for over three years. For context, the studio revealed Intergalactic nearly four years into its development, choosing The Game Awards 2024 for the official announcement.

Based on that pattern, it’s likely that Naughty Dog could unveil its latest IP at an upcoming major gaming event. Many also believe Neil Druckmann’s recent openness about the project hints that the studio is gearing up to reveal it publicly. Still, fans should take these rumors with a grain of salt, as nothing has been officially confirmed.
