If you were like me and hoping that rumors of a revised DualSense, AKA the DualSense V3, for the PlayStation 5 would bring with it a much-needed, and quite frankly, highly-requested removable battery, then we’re sorry to dash your hopes because it appears that this is not the case.
In a new video from Austin Evans, the same YouTuber who reported that the revised PlayStation 5 Slim model not only has a smaller SSD but cheaper materials, all for the same price, he purchased the new PlayStation 5 Pro SKU, which has that rumored DualSense V3 bundled with it, only to find out that there’s not much going on.
The new model has some extra plastic support on the inside, but is missing one internal microphone, though that likely won’t impact things all too much. It also has a different battery, but that different battery isn’t the kind that you can easily swap out to charge or replace.
In other words, all those rumors were fake, or potentially a case of mistranslation or misunderstanding, given that there is a “new” battery, and like other DualSense batteries, it can be swapped out, technically speaking, but so could other batteries.
What fans, including this one, were really hoping for was a more streamlined design that could let you charge your battery without needing to abandon the whole controller, or let you replace the battery with ease on a controller that’s since degraded. Oh well.
Speaking Of The PS5 Pro, It’s A Bit Of An Improvement
In Evans’ video, it’s noted that this new SKU of the Pro actually weighs less than the original model by about 87 grams. It retains the same glossy finish that the new Slim models have since replaced with matte, and boasts new fans inside. Those new fans help dampen the noise generated by the console.
It uses less power and runs slightly cooler, though there aren’t any actual discernible differences when it comes to how it runs games. Which is to say, the new PS5 Pro is better, but you also probably wouldn’t know any of these improvements existed.
