New Final Fantasy XIV Cash Shop Mount Lets You Ride a Crescent Moon With an Adorable Loporrit

Today Square Enix released a brand new mount for its popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, with the caveat that you have to pay for it with real money.

Specifically, the new Crescent Moon mount is available on the game’s online store for $24.00, €16.80, or £13.80, depending on where you live.

The mount is account-wide, so you can purchase it once and it’ll appear for all of your characters in that account.

The mount is shaped like a crescent moon (hence the name) and sits a single character, but you can be accompanied by an adorable Loporrit, or better a Loporrit automaton according to the official description.

Designed in the likeness of a crescent moon, this magicked gondola was being kept in storage in Sharlayan, where it was classified as a gift. While its origin is undisclosed, the automaton that accompanies the contraption offers a telling clue. The trail of sparkles left in your wake will make you feel as though you’re truly playing among the stars…

You can check out a video showing the mount in action below.

If you’re not familiar with Final Fantasy XIV‘s cash shop, it offers a variety of what Square Enix calls “optional items” that players are required to purchase with real money.

This practice is slightly controversial, considering that the game is already supported by a monthly subscription, but this certainly doesn’t stop many from purchasing thousands of copies of the latest mount, outfit, or emote.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PS5, PS4, PC, and Mac. An Xbox Series X|S version is coming this spring and an open beta just started a few weeks ago. A  new expansion titled Dawntrail is coming this summer, and you can read a lot of recent details from the latest Fan Festival in Tokyo.

It’s one of the most beloved MMORPGs in the market and it recently passed 30 million registered accounts. If you’d like to join that number you can purchase a copy on Amazon.
