New Genshin Impact-Style Open-World Gacha RPG Wuthering Waves Gets Release Date

Kuro Games has announced the Wuthering Waves release date, and the open-world gacha RPG is heading your way in late spring.

Per a new post on X (formerly Twitter)Wuthering Waves officially launches across PC and mobile devices on May 22nd. That’s according to Pacific time, so your specific release timing may vary slightly depending on your region.

Pre-registrations for the game are also currently open across the App Store, Google Play Store, and Epic Games Store. Three pre-registration milestones have already been hit, but two more require a total of 20 million and 30 million pre-registrations respectively.

Wuthering Waves is aiming to give Genshin Impact a run for its money.

If you’re not familiar with Wuthering Waves, it’s an open-world gacha RPG developed by Chinese outfit Kuro Games, whose sole previous title is 2019’s sci-fi action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven.

Kuro describes its new game as “a story-rich open-world game with a high degree of freedom”, and together with the visual style, that description inevitably invites comparisons to HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact.

There are, however, differences between the two. Wuthering Waves looks to be aiming for a darker and more serious tone, for one thing, and for another, it features a number of unique mechanics, including the ability to capture monsters.

Together with the game’s release date, a brand new cinematic trailer was also released earlier today, giving you a glimpse into Wuthering Waves‘ world. You can check that trailer, titled “Saving Light”, out right here.

Since its announcement, Wuthering Waves has held two closed beta tests, one taking place in April last year and the other happening earlier this year. Hopefully, those beta tests will ensure that the finished product is polished to a mirror sheen when it launches.

Wuthering Waves arrives on PC, iOS, and Android on May 22nd. Stay tuned for more on this one as and when we get it.
