Nintendo Fans Aren’t Happy With Mario Tennis Fever’s $70 Price Tag

If you’re a fan of Mario’s escapades as an athlete, then last week’s highly-anticipated Nintendo Direct was music to your ears as it saw the reveal of Mario Tennis Fever. The follow-up to Mario Tennis Aces, Fever, will launch next year on the Nintendo Switch 2.

However, just as quickly as it was announced and made available for pre-order, Tennis Fever re-ignited a longstanding debate over just how much Nintendo games cost, with gamers believing that Tennis Fever is a tad bit too expensive.

Coming Off How Tennis Aces Was Received, $70 Is A Bit Steep

To start, Mario Tennis Fever will retail at $69.99, the same price as Donkey Kong Bananza, and just $10 less than Mario Kart World. Immediately, fans were astounded that the sports title would cost as much as Bananza, with some wondering if variable pricing was ever considered.

Historically speaking, Mario’s sports adventures have often been great party experiences but light on content. Fever’s eShop description notes a focus on “Fever Rackets,” as well as a story mode that will see Mario and co. turned into babies and needing to relearn their tennis skills.

It’s entirely possible that Nintendo saw the sales of Tennis Aces and decided to keep its pricing constant. Aces reportedly topped over 4.5 million sales, making it clearly the best-selling Mario sports spin-off.

Still, it didn’t stop a separate gamer from calling it the most “egregiously priced” Nintendo game, which is a pretty bold statement considering the Welcome Tour does exist. Ultimately, only time will tell if the game is truly worth its $70 asking price, or if these gamers and many more are correct in their assessment that not all $70 games are created equal.
