Pokemon Legends: Z-A launches this week, but thanks to a second Game Freak leak almost exactly one year on from the last, it will likely be panic stations at Pokemon HQ right about now. If the leaked information is accurate, we now know everything Pokemon has planned on the video game front for the next five years, and it’s bad news for those of you waiting for the rumored Black & White remakes.
Remakes of Pokemon Black & White have supposedly been in the works for years. However, no mention of them in 2024’s big Game Freak leak made it seem like they were either scrapped or never real to begin with. Now Game Freak has been subjected to another leak, and even though there’s no mention of the Unova games getting remade before the end of this decade, there is a silver lining.
Pokemon Has At Least Thought About Remaking Black & White
While Black & White remakes aren’t on the list of leaked upcoming games, they are mentioned in passing. In a screenshot shared by Centro Leaks, which has been translated into English, the Black & White remakes are indeed mentioned. “Remakes made for Black and White onwards should have a lot more love and care put into them. I hope that they become good games that will allow people to enjoy eras different from the Legends series,” the document reads.
The remakes are discussed more hypothetically than in a concrete manner confirming they’re real. That even though they’re not being worked on right now, Pokemon and Game Freak clearly plan on getting to them eventually. Like I said, it’s good news and bad news. They have clearly been discussed, but they are a very non-urgent project right now that, at best, we probably won’t be getting until at least the mid-2030s.
Again, if these leaks are accurate, of course. Not to mention Game Freak and The Pokemon Company potentially changing course. Even if the leaks are accurate, they don’t necessarily paint a picture that Pokemon will stick to for the next decade.
As for what we are getting according to these latest leaks, the headline is the reveal that Pokemon Gen 10 games will allegedly be called Wind & Waves. There’s also a third Legends game listed, as well as an ambitious project that will combine four remade regions into a single MMO.
Game Freak ackowledged last year’s leak, confirming to the world that the information from it was real by doing so. The difference between that leak and this one was Game Freak didn’t have a brand new game launching that same week. My guess is it will try to ignore the leaks, at least publicly, and attempt to shift everyone’s focus back to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, ready for its arrival this Thursday.
