Pokémon GO Servers Crash as Mega Rayquaza Raid Day Begins in Japan

It’s been a while since we had one of these, hasn’t it? At approximately 2:00 PM JST, just as the Mega Rayquaza Raid Day event officially began in Japan, Pokémon GO’s servers experienced a widespread outage, preventing a large portion of Trainers from logging in, joining raids, or even spinning PokéStops and Gyms. DownDetector reported a massive spike in error reports within minutes, confirming a global-scale disruption rather than a localised issue.

This happened right as Mega Rayquaza raids became active, causing major frustration as many were trying to raid remotely to get an early Ray Ray. Apparently, early bird doesn’t get the Ray Ray worm in this case. Reports quickly surfaced from Japan, Australia, and parts of Europe and North America, where Trainers attempting to join remotely were hit with endless loading screens, “Failed to get data from server” errors, and broken Gym interactions.

No official acknowledgement from Niantic has been issued at the time of writing. It remains unclear whether the event will be extended, delayed, or compensated, as was done during previous large-scale raid outages.

We strongly recommend keeping an eye on the in-game News tab, as well as Pokémon GO’s official Japanese and English social media channels, for any updates or adjustments.

This article will be updated as the situation develops.
