Summary

  • Garchomp the Unrivaled will appear in Seven-Star Tera Raid dens in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
  • The Seven-Star Tera Raid event runs from May 22 to 25, and from May 29 to June 1.

  • Garchomp’s power is offset by its weakness to Water, Grass, and Ice attacks.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet pulled back the curtain on the next Seven-Star Tera Raid battle, as trainers will soon face Garchomp the Unrivaled. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players will have two opportunities to battle and catch a level 100 Garchomp via this Seven-Star Tera Raid event, though the boss Pokemon will be a formidable foe.

Known as the Mach Pokemon, Garchomp is the pseudo-legendary monster of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Garchomp is the fully-evolved form of Gible and Gabite, and is usually a Ground and Dragon dual-type Pokemon. Garchomp is also the signature monster of Cynthia, the renowned Pokemon League Champion of the Sinnoh region. Garchomp’s highest stats are its HP and physical attack, meaning it can utilize moves like Earthquake, Outrage, and Poison Jab with brutal efficiency. Garchomp’s versatile moves, physical power, and high health make it a staple Pokemon in most competitive battle teams.

Some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Players Will Be Getting a New Free Pokemon

A few Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can soon claim a free new critter to add to their growing collections, but some caveats apply.

Following the end of the Metagross Tera Raid event, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players will have a few days to get ready for the next battle. According to Serebii.net, Garchomp the Unrivaled will appear in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starting on Thursday, May 22, at 8:00 PM Eastern, and ending on Sunday, May 25, at 7:59 PM Eastern. Another round will begin a week later for Pokemon trainers who miss out, running from May 29 to June 1 at the same start and end times. Garchomp the Unrivaled will have the Ground-type as its Tera type and will grant the Mightiest Mark to trainers who can beat it.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Garchomp Tera Raid Details (Late May 2025)

Like other pseudo-legendary Pokemon featured as Seven-Star Tera Raid bosses in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Garchomp will have two potential abilities to draw from. Its Sand Veil ability boosts its evasiveness during a Sandstorm, while Rough Skin deals damage to any attackers that make physical contact with their moves. Both of Garchomp’s abilities can be negated by either using a different weather move like Rain Dance or avoiding using physical attacks altogether. But, Garchomp’s reputation as a competitive Pokemon battle staple is not without reason, as it can still use strong physical attacks like Earthquake and Dragon Claw to punish its foes.

However, Ground Pokemon are weak against Water, Grass, and Ice attacks, meaning Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers will have plenty of options to counter Garchomp’s physical power. Bulky Water Pokemon like Kyogre, Quagsire, Vaporeon, and Wash Form Rotom should be reliable picks for facing Garchomp the Unrivaled. What strategies players develop remains to be seen.
