Released just over a year ago, Sword of the Sea is an excellent and evocative hoverboarding puzzler developed by Giant Squid – a studio founded by ex-ThatGameCompany art director Matt Nava. Launched as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, the game appears to be making its way to additional platforms, with the Microsoft Store seemingly accidentally leaking its yet-to-be-announced Xbox release date.
As discovered by ResetEra user ‘Aspect’, the official Xbox Store accidentally went live with a listing for Sword of the Sea, ‘confirming’ that the game will be coming to Microsoft’s console on the 29th of October.
Since its discovery however, the page has been taken down, suggesting that the listing went live a bit earlier than planned – though is almost certainly still set to come to the platform.
As mentioned, Sword of the Sea is an excellent game which sits neatly within the melancholic, gameplay-first design stylings of ThatGameCompany (who is of course known best for the PS3 classic Journey).
Having launched on PS5 back in August 2025 as a day-one PlayStation Plus addition, it is likely that Sony / Giant Squid had a one-year exclusivity deal in place.
Regardless of whether you played it last year on PS5 / PC, or plan to pick it up on Xbox, Sword of the Sea is a slick and satisfying experience worth checking out. Expect an official announcement of its Xbox release sooner rather than later.
