PS5 Gets Another New System Update for October 2025

Sony has officially begun rolling out yet another system software update for the PlayStation 5, bringing the console to version 25.07-12.20.00 with some minor new features and improvements. While the majority of new PlayStation 5 updates are merely for stability improvements, the latest firmware patch appears to include a handy new feature that allows players to check the serial number of the console and controller via the system settings.

PlayStation fans are always eager to see what Sony has in store when it comes to new PlayStation 5 updates, but major new features and changes are often few and far between. The most recent firmware update came just this month, as the company simultaneously updated both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on October 1. Sadly, there was nothing significant to report regarding the surprise updates, as the patch notes for both consoles stated that the updates were for security fixes. Now, however, another update is once again available for the PlayStation 5, with a useful new feature that is sure to come in handy.

New PS5 Update Available Now

PlayStation 5 owners now have another new update to download, as version 25.07-12.20.00 has begun rolling out worldwide. The full patch notes for the update can be found further down this article, which detail a new feature that allows users to easily identify the serial number of their console and controllers without having to look on the physical devices. Instead, players can now navigate to the console information section of the PS5 settings to locate the serial number, or the accessory settings to find the serial number for any DualSense controllers connected via USB or bluetooth.

The latest update offers players a handy new feature to check out, and although it is much more exciting than the usual stability improvements, it’s far from the last major PlayStation 5 update from September. Last month’s patch introduced a major new feature for DualSense controllers, which allows users to pair the accessory to multiple devices at once. Previously, DualSense controllers needed to be repaired every time they were connected to a different device, be it a PC or another PS5 console. Now, however, the September firmware update allows players to register up to four devices per controller and switch between them with ease.

PlayStation 5 consoles and hardware will be on sale during the 2025 Days of Play

PlayStation 5 owners have a big month coming up, as November currently has six big releases scheduled throughout the month. Satisfactory and 1000xRESIST will kick off the month on November 4, followed by PUBG: Battlegrounds on November 13 and the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on November 14. While there aren’t any major exclusives releasing in November, it was just earlier this month that fans received the sequel to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, which received rave reviews from both players and critics.
