With Grand Theft Auto 6 delayed into 2026, it’s shaping up to be yet another year without a Rockstar Games release. However, that could potentially change if yet another batch of rumors surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 and a current-gen patch are to be believed.
In a post shared on Twitter, reliable insider NateTheHate wrote that the previously rumored current-gen patch for RDR2, along with a Nintendo Switch 2 port, does exist, though he does not have any idea on a potential release window.
It’s the latest set of rumors surrounding the 2018 game, and the second batch in the last 48 hours or so alone. Given that Rockstar will likely devote all of 2026 to GTA 6 marketing, it feels like it’s now or never when it comes to announcing and releasing an enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Of course, when that announcement will be is anyone’s guess.
A Timeline Of Red Dead Redemption 2 Remaster Rumors
Beginning in January, rumors began percolating that RDR2 could see a release on the Switch 2. That was even before the Switch 2 had been “officially” revealed by Nintendo themselves.
Then, in May, more rumors about a potential Switch 2 release surfaced, alongside word that the title would also receive a remaster for current-gen hardware. A month later, the voice actor of John Marston began cryptically teasing a massive announcement related to the franchise. Unfortunately, that announcement ended up being for a panel, but the teases still reflected a potential major development.
Now, here’s where things get interesting — the official Steam description for Red Dead Redemption 2 was updated by Rockstar roughly 48 hours ago. That description swapped the game’s many awards for a rather basic back-of-the-box synopsis of the game, an odd decision considering how long RDR2 has been available.
Typically speaking, where there is smoke, there is fire, and when it comes to Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s a fire as bright as the one that burned down the Braithwaite Manor. Now if only Rockstar could rip off the proverbial Band-Aid and let us in on what has seemingly become one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets.
