Riot Games Previews New Riftbound: Unleashed Mechanics and New Ultimate Rarity

Riot Games has provided a preview of the next set of their League of Legends trading card game. The game’s third set, Riftbound: Unleashed, will introduce new mechanics to the game alongside fan favorite champions.

The Riftbound: Unleashed Preview

According to a press release, the upcoming Riftbound: Unleashed set will contain over 220 cards and more than 30 alternate art cards. Those cards will introduce new gameplay mechanics, bringing further depth to the game. The preview also confirms four of the nine Champions coming in this set: Kha’Zix, Lillia, Diana, and Ivern.

Several of of those mechanics are spotlighted. The first is Ambush, which can be played as a reaction to a battlefield where you have units.allowing you to surprise your opponent with reinforcements. The second mechanic is XP, a separate resource you can spend for advantage. XP can even convert to Levels, which grants benefits to cards with the Level keyword.

The third mechanic is the Hunt keyword. Cards with this keyword will earn you XP when they conquer or hold a battlefield. Given League of Legends’ history as a MOBA where managing territory, gold, and leveling up your champions is key to success, these additions are in keeping with the source material.

For card game fans that love tokens, Riftbound: Unleashed has you covered. Those include the Baron Pit, which enter the battlefield alongside Baron Nashor, Birds, Reflections (copies of cards already in play), and Sprites, which are temporary units that die at the start of your next Beginning phase.

For the collectors out there, Riftbound: Unleashed will introduce a Ultimate Rarity card. This is a new Overnumbered card that will appear in less than one percent of all packs in the set. There will be on Ultimate Rarity card in Unleashed: the mighty Baron Nashor.

Lastly, competitive players should mark their calendars. The Summoner Skirmish windows for Riftbound: Unleashed begin on May 25 and June 22, respectively. This a 1v1 constructed event where winners can earn exclusive prizes like promo playmats, promo cards, and a spot a Riftbound regional qualifier.

Unleashed releases in China on April 10, with its English language launch happening May 8.
