Rivals Spotlight Hour: Last Minute Guide (May 2024)

Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of May. Hitmonchan & Hitmonlee Spotlight Hour takes place on May 7th, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with 2× Transfer Candy bonus.

This Spotlight Hour runs along side the Rivals Week Event and is the first May 2024 Pokémon spotlight, and it is especially interesting as both featured Pokémon can be shiny and you will get 2x Candy on transfer! In other words, it’s a great time to have a clear out of your Pokémon storage.

Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Pokémon caught. Here’s everything you need to know!

Note on Transfer Bonus

If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon, you can make use of the 2x Transfer Candy bonus in other ways.

  • Check out our Rivals Week Event top priorities article… if you are looking to build some PVP ‘mon you can save some event spawns to transfer during the spotlight hour.
  • If you are not into PVP, or have plenty of candies for powering up the top priorities, you can try transferring any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag! This is a great opportunity to clear out your storage, transfer Legendary Pokémon you have been clinging onto, and rare Pokémon you need more candy for. Mega Pokémon that boost Hitmonchan

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching  Hitmonchan if they are Mega evolved.

Mega Catch Bonus

While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Is it worth building Hitmonchan?

JTizzle says – Hitmonchan has a bit more viability as a bit of a Swiss Army knife style player with all of its different elemental punches, but it’s also quite fragile and doesn’t see much play in the open meta. Definitely prefers to be a shadow and in the right limited meta too, although it’s got some spice value in the Ultra League too! It’s just a shame that Poliwrath and Annihilape are now the supreme fighters in the open metal.

Is it worth building Hitmonlee?

JTizzle says – Hitmonlee is way too frail to get a look in for the open meta, but has had a number of moveset updates to try and improve its viability. It’s definitely waiting for the right limited meta to come along for it to shine, such as a return of the fighting cup.
