Should You Use 1st or 3rd Person in RE9?

Resident Evil Requiem features dual protagonists with Leon and Grace, and their stories weave together through different genres of horror. Through survival and action, players will be forced to run and fight in different scenarios, and with those scenarios comes the choice of camera perspective.

In Resident Evil 9, players can choose between the first-person camera and the third-person camera, allowing players of either preference to enjoy the game. However, some players might be undecided on what to go with, so we’ll help you come to a decision by showing you what camera settings you should use for Leon and Grace.

Resident Evil Requiem Review: A Horror Gaming Masterpiece

By expertly blending pure horror and over-the-top action, Resident Evil Requiem becomes the ultimate Resident Evil experience.

Should You Play First-Person or Third-Person in Resident Evil 9?

We recommend using third-person cameras for both Grace and Leon. This comes from the fact that third-person provides you with a greater cone of vision, allowing you to see enemies with a wider field of view, while also giving you a better view for spotting loot and collectibles, and checking past corners to see if an enemy lurks around them.

First-Person or Third-Person for Grace?

Grace’s gameplay is far more survival horror than Leon’s. She will experience more frights and jumpscares as she scavenges for ammo, runs away from enemies, and indulges in traditional scares and horror. For those seeking to be scared and to up the suspense, we recommend first-person.

Not only will this aid in the immersion, but some scenes are designed to be in first-person for Grace, and memorable moments might have a lessened effect when the camera switches from third-person. However, if you want to feel safer and like you have more control of movement, then stick with third-person.

First-Person or Third-Person for Leon?

Leon’s gameplay is far more action-focused and reminiscent of Leon’s time in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. As such, we only recommend third-person for Leon. While first-person can be an interesting change of formula for Leon, his gameplay is faster-paced and combat-oriented.

With that in mind, third-person is great so you can see what’s around you, pull off parries and fast turns, and have a better time firing your guns at zombies and other enemies without a forced camera perspective in the first-person.

How to Change Camera Modes in Resident Evil 9

To change perspective and camera, head into the Options by hitting the Select button, and enter the Camera tab. From here, you can check the Perspective and Camera settings to change Grace’s Camera and Leon’s Camera, allowing you to seamlessly switch from first-person to third-person for either character.

You can also click Grace’s Camera or Leon’s Camera to change the Y-axis and X-axis Camera Speeds for gameplay and aiming, along with the Acceleration and Deceleration speeds, so that you have more control over how fast the camera moves.
