The rumoured Shrek 2 game remaster has just been fully leaked on the official Xbox store, including a reveal trailer that parodies Grand Theft Auto 6.
During last month’s massive Steam achievement leak list, one of the most interesting discoveries was a surprise remaster of the Shrek 2 game from 2004. As random as remastering a tie-in game for a movie that’s more than 20 years old is, I would be lying if I pretended not to be incredibly excited.
The surprisingly solid co-op brawler (at least by 2004 standards) was a big part of my childhood, so it potentially being brought back is something I never knew I wanted. After an incoming reveal was teased by ID@Xbox just yesterday, Xbox has pulled the trigger early and fully leaked the remaster, giving us our first look at what it’s all about.
Shrek 2 Remastered Accidentally Revealed By Xbox Store
It’s Being Developed By Aspyr
As pointed out by ResetEra user Zonic, the official Xbox Store now has a fleshed-out listing for Shrek 2 Remastered ahead of its planned reveal next week. The page even has the pre-order trailer, which opens up by parodying GTA 6 before revealing that it’s actually for something that freaks like me find just as exciting.
Instead of just being a simple port of the PS2 classic, Shrek 2 Remastered has upgraded the graphics a bit, which is most noticeable with the new character models. It’s still unmistakably a game from several console generations ago, but it does look a little bit sharper with the new 4K graphics and added polish.
The listing also notes that the remaster is adding a new Photo Mode to the game, as well as cheat codes that aim to make things more “seamless”. There’s even online co-op this time around, which is a nice touch. As of right now, there’s no release date listed, but I imagine we’re not Far Far Away if pre-orders are opening after the announcement in a few days.
