Silent Hill fans aren’t happy about how young James Sunderland’s updated model looks in the latest combat-focused trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Before yesterday, it had been a long time since we’d seen the Silent Hill 2 remake in action, leaving fans eagerly waiting for the next time it was shown off. After more than a year of silence and Bloober and Konami playing the blame game, we finally got another look at it at last night’s State of Play presentation, which showed a whole lot more combat than anyone would have expected.

I’m Almost Impressed By How Bad Silent Hill Ascension Turned Out To Be

Silent Hill Ascension is so much worse than anyone thought it’d be.

After spending so long waiting for another chance to see the Silent Hill 2 remake, fans weren’t exactly pleased with what they saw, with complaints directed towards the combat, the animations, the quick-time events, and several other things. One specific complaint that some fans have had about the new footage is that James Sunderland looks a lot younger than he did in the last bit of footage.

As you can see from this post from Redditor PerkzFPS, one shot of James in the new trailer has him looking about as young as Leon Kennedy did in Resident Evil 2’s remake. This is especially strange, as the first trailer we got for the Silent Hill 2 remake had him looking older than he did in the original game, something that was done to make him suffer more and be more accurate to the original vision for the game, as graphical limitations made him look younger than he was meant to in the PS2 original.

Funnily enough, some Silent Hill fans weren’t happy with how old James previously looked when the game was revealed, so it’s not clear if Bloober and Konami have responded to that and made him look younger again, or if it’s just a shot in the trailer that looks a little off. He certainly does look younger in this new footage than he did before, but there’s no telling if it’s purposeful or just a lighting issue.

Konami hasn’t yet confirmed whether it’s an intentional change to make James look younger than what he did in the first trailer, but it’s a strange move after having previously said that it’s being done to be more authentic to the character. We’ll probably have to wait for another look at the game before we know for sure.
