How do you escape the Silent Hill f scarecrow field? The terrifyingly dense fog is one of the most recognizable elements of Silent Hill, and, despite not actually taking place in Silent Hill, there is no shortage of smog in Silent Hill f. One of the foggiest places you’ll come across is a vast field teeming with deadly scarecrows, and it’s easy to get turned around in the murk and mist.
Your task here is to remove nails from specific scarecrows. Get it wrong, and you’ll find yourself fighting off their attacks. However, the most difficult part of this Silent Hill f puzzle is finding your way in the fog, and even the most dedicated puzzle game enthusiasts can find themselves turned around. If that’s you, read on for the solutions and an aid for going the right way in the Silent Hill f scarecrow field puzzle.
How to escape the scarecrow field
There are five sections to complete in the field. For each, you must find the Flash Cards buried in one of the scarecrows. Pick the wrong scarecrow, and you have to fight them off. The hardest part is finding your way between the groups, as you can get lost in the fog. Stray too far from your path, and you’ll be reset. However, when you do pull the nail from the correct figure, they’ll point you in the right direction.
The clue to picking the correct scarecrow lies in the faceless scarecrow standing guard in front of the group. However, you’ll soon realize that the correct scarecrows usually represent Rinko, Hinako, Sakuko, or Shu, depending on the clue.
By the fifth clue on each difficulty, you also have to contend with a few deadly scarecrows chasing you. You can avoid them if you’re quick, otherwise it’s best to take them out before trying to solve the puzzle. They move closer when they’re off-screen and attack when you get close. Keep this in mind, and you should have no trouble defeating them.

Story mode scarecrow solution
- First clue: ‘Who are you? Why do you always have to be different than everyone else? Freak.’
- Look for the only scarecrow holding a scythe. She doesn’t look like any of the characters you know.
- Second clue: ‘Who are you? Honestly. You’re helpless without me.’
- Interact with the Hinako scarecrow.
- Third clue: ‘Who are you? I’ll be your friend. Otherwise, you’d be so miserably alone.’
- Again, interact with the Hinako scarecrow.
- Fourth clue: ‘Who are you? Tell me, truly. You two aren’t anything more than friends, right? I’ve always been watching you when you weren’t looking, you know.’
- Interact with the scarecrow that looks like Hinako, who is looking at Shu, while Rinko is looking at her.
- Fifth clue: ‘Who are you? Yes, you.’
- Once more, look for the scarecrow that resembles Hinako.

Hard mode scarecrow solution
- First clue: ‘Can you imagine how I feel? I’ll put on my polite smile for now.’
- The hint here is that the scarecrow is smiling, but it’s not sincere, so you must find the smiling scarecrow also wearing a mask.
- Second clue: ‘Can you imagine how I feel? What it’s like to have been deceived by you for so long?’
- This scarecrow has been stabbed in the back, so you should only interact with the statue that has a scythe buried in its back.
- Third clue: ‘Can you imagine how I feel? He never once looked at me the way he looked at you. Not once.’
- We’re not totally sure what gives this one away, but it could be that this scarecrow is bending over backwards for someone’s attention, as you want to pick the figure that is literally bending over backwards.
- Fourth clue: ‘You’ve always been such an eyesore.’
- This one is probably the most difficult of the hard-mode clues, as it’s not really obvious what this has to do with the correct scarecrow, other than perhaps that it’s craning its neck to look away. Again, though, it has Rinko’s half-up, half-down hairstyle.
- Fifth clue: ‘You hurt me, and even hurt him, too. Do you know how it feels to force a smile when I’m staring at that disgusting face of yours?!’
- Again, this Hinako scarecrow has a scythe in its back, and it’s also looking down.

Lost in the Fog scarecrow solution
- First clue: ‘It’s your funeral today. I think I’ll give you a standing ovation.’
- This is a Rinko scarecrow, and she is holding no weapons.
- Second clue: ‘It’s your funeral today. Good riddance. It feels as though I finally for this painful burden off my chest.’
- This one is another Rinko scarecrow, not holding a weapon. This time the scythe is at her feet.
- Third clue: ‘It’s your funeral today. You hurt him, and now you’re leaving him behind. I hope you suffer for what you’ve done.’
- This time, the clue refers to Hinako directly, so you’re looking for the Hinako statue turned away from the dead Shu statue in the middle of the field.
- Fourth clue: ‘It’s your funeral today. You were such a thorn in my side. Always getting between me and him.’
- Again, this clue refers to Hinako, so you want to interact with the Hinako statue standing between Rinko and Shu.
- Fifth clue: ‘It’s your funeral today. Goodbye, and don’t ever show your face again. Go do your own thing, just like you always have.’
- This one works slightly differently, and you shouldn’t interact with any scarecrows in the vicinity. Instead, locate the scarecrow lying on the ground near the cart, and follow the direction in which it points. Keep following these ‘dead’ scarecrows until you reach a standing Hinako scarecrow. Interact with this scarecrow to complete the puzzle.
