The team behind Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater want original creator Hideo Kojima to play the remake since it’s so “respectful” of the 2004 classic.
We’re just a few days away from the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which is finally giving the long-suffering fans of MGS something good to eat after Konami and Kojima’s legendary fallout. While most of us are excited to reexperience Snake Eater with a new coat of paint, series creator Hideo Kojima has already confirmed that he’s not bothered.
When asked by Ssense if he’d be trying out Delta: Snake Eater, Kojima simply laughed and said “No, I won’t”, making it very clear that he’s not interested in revisiting his past. The team behind the remake has recently responded to his comment and revealed that they wish that wasn’t the case.
Kojima Doesn’t Want To Play Snake Eater’s Remake, But Virtuos Wants Him To
As pointed out by FRVR, Inverse recently had the chance to chat with some of the team at Virtuos about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. During the interview, Inverse asked Delta’s producer Noriaki Okamura what he thought of Kojima saying that he wasn’t going to be playing the remake.
In response, Okamura said that he wasn’t sure what Kojima would want to do, but that Virtuos made the game with the goal of being “very respectful” of the original and everyone who worked on it. Okamura says that he and the team “would love” for Kojima to see that by playing the game, even if we already know that’s not something he’s interested in.
We are not sure what he would want to do, but we want to deliver this game whilst being very respectful of all the people that we previously worked with. We would love for [Kojima] to see it too. – Noriaki Okamura
It’s a pretty wholesome response to Kojima not wanting to play Delta, but it seems like there’s no bad blood on either side. Kojima has gone on to create games that are very him, while Virtuos has had the chance to remake a game that clearly means a lot to them. Even if Kojima never ends up giving Delta a try, it seems like things have worked out nicely for everyone involved.
