Snowy Resident Evil film set photos give credence to major plot leak

Set photos from the upcoming Resident Evil film from Weapons director Zach Cregger show a very snowy Raccoon City.

Filming for the adaptation kicked off earlier this year in Prague, and now thanks to The Prague Reporter we can all take a little peek at what Cregger is cooking up for us all. The snow dusting the streets on the set suggests that the film will be set during the winter season in Raccoon City, a key location in the Resident Evil games, and lends credence to an earlier rumour regarding the adaptation’s plot (I won’t spoil it here).

As you can see in the images below, Cregger’s take on Resident Evil features an establishment called Oak Street Diner. This could be a little nod to Tall Oaks, a town in Resident Evil 6. One of the bus signs also points to Central Station, which pops up in the games.

“In the Karlín neighborhood of Prague 8, an action scene involving snow, gunfire, explosions, and fast driving was filmed from Oct. 29-Nov. 2,” the publication wrote. “Residents and visitors passing through the area were greeted with a light cover of snow throughout the week as production on Resident Evil took place primarily during the night hours.”

Cregger previously confirmed his take on the Resident Evil film will tell an original story, but will still be “true to the experience of the games”. At this time, he added the film “lives” in the world of Resident Evil 2 and 3. That being said, Cregger said his adaptation “adheres more to the tone of 4”. The filmmaker has not seen any of the previous Resident Evil film adaptations himself.

Cregger – whose other work includes 2022’s Barbarian, which our Matt describes as “wonderfully unpredictable” – was first announced to be helming the next Resident Evil movie in March of this year.

The upcoming Resident Evil film is expected to be released on 18th September, 2026.
