Soulframe is finally opening its doors to everyone. After years of invite-only testing, Digital Extremes has announced that its fantasy action RPG will enter Open Preludes this week, allowing anyone on PC to jump in and try the game without waiting for an invitation.
Since first entering closed testing, Soulframe has generated plenty of interest among players looking for a different take on the online RPG formula. Unlike many modern MMOs, Soulframe places a greater emphasis on melee combat, exploration and a slower-paced fantasy setting. The move to Open Preludes marks the game’s biggest testing phase yet.
The upcoming Verse of the Veillands update will arrive alongside Open Preludes, bringing a substantial overhaul to progression and a more structured introduction to the world of Midrath. After completing an early quest, players will begin cleansing corrupted regions known as the Veillands, unlocking resources, activities and new areas along the way. The update will also introduce a wolf companion that can eventually be trained into a mount, with further updates to the Veillands system planned for future builds.
Soulframe’s timing is interesting. Open Preludes arrives just as Blizzard prepares to launch World of Warcraft: Forever, placing the game’s biggest public test yet alongside one of the year’s largest MMO releases.
