Last week was a big moment for Dragon Ball Z fans, as we finally got our best look yet at how Sparking Zero is going to play, complete with battle damaged characters, spectacular beam clashes, and a variety of new mechanics that make the next Budokai Tenkaichi look like it’s taken some notes from Raging Blast of all games.

Sand Land Hits Even Harder After Akira Toriyama’s Death

Seeing Akira Toriyama’s niche masterpiece adapted into a big open-world adventure left me surprisingly emotional.

As great as it was to see Sparking Zero in action properly, that wasn’t all that we got from the showcase, as a new trailer was also revealed that highlighted a bunch of new characters. Beyond seemingly hinting at What-If battles and proving that Sparking Zero will put any character from Dragon Ball in the game (Kakunsa, really?), it also briefly showed off a returning feature from Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

One of the characters who is shown off in the Power vs Speed trailer is Master Roshi (Max Power), and as we see him teleport to Kakunsa and kick her down to the ground below, we see that he instantly starts to fall to the ground after his attack is complete. Although there’s a chance that whoever is controlling him is making him descend, it instead seems to be confirmation that he won’t be able to fly.

For those who don’t remember, previous Budokai Tenkaichi games had a mechanic in place that meant that fighters who canonically couldn’t fly (such as Kid Goku, Kid Chi-Chi, Master Roshi, and more) would only be able to hover in the air for short periods before dropping to the ground, which seems to be what happens to Master Roshi here.

Beyond being a nice little callback to Budokai Tenkaichi and proof that Sparking Zero is going to be full of canon details like this, it also gives a bit more evidence that original Dragon Ball characters (who all couldn’t fly in previous games) could end up making it to Sparking Zero and having the same limitations as Master Roshi is seemingly shown to have in this trailer.
