Star Wars Battlefront 3 Seemingly Being Headed By Dice And Respawn

Even though Star Wars Battlefront 2 had a fairly rocky start due to its heavy reliance on microtransactions and locked content, the game has gone through several renaissances after their removal. While we had previously reported that Star Wars Battlefront 2 may have been getting a long-overdue sequel with Disney searching for a new studio to lead the project, a recent announcement has fans preparing for a full return to the series’ former glory.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed just yet, EA’s layoff announcement reported by Variety seems to include an indirect reference to Battlefront 3 entering development, which has been backed by several leakers since.

A Battlefront 3 Announcement Is Closer Than Ever

While the news does come alongside the absolutely heartbreaking announcement that BioWare is being shut down, and that the next Mass Effect game is being canceled as a result, there is still somewhat of a silver lining that we might finally be getting a return to the beloved sci-fi shooter series, with some familiar talent as well.

According to EA themselves, both Dice and Respawn will be collaborating on the new project moving forward, which will be developed in tandem with the ongoing support for future Battlefield titles and updates for EA’s microtransaction cash cow with Apex Legends, which EA is planning to “invest heavily” into for several more years.

It’s Hard To Ask For A Better Battlefront Lead

Although the fact that Battlefront 3 is seemingly being headed under EA does offer some concern in repeating the same mistakes that made Battlefront 2 so heavily criticized on release, both Dice and Respawn have more than shown their skill in making engaging multiplayer experiences with Battlefield 6 and Titanfall 2, in addition to the previous Battlefront reboots, which were developed solely by Dice themselves under EA.

While there is always a chance that Battlefront 3 could wind up getting cancelled if EA’s layoff trend is anything to go by, the growing rumors still offer plenty of reasons for fans of the series to get excited, especially with the success of more recent Star Wars games and the upcoming release of Star Wars Jedi 3 bringing more attention to the gaming side of the franchise.
