While free-to-play Steam games aren’t too uncommon on their own, the times when you get to download and keep a paid game entirely for free are far rarer by comparison.

With the limited-time offer being a way to celebrate the release of a demo for its official sequel, indie developers DigitalSunGames are offering the action-adventure roguelike RPG Moonlighter entirely for free from now until 10:00 AM PST on Sunday, August 9th.

If you haven’t heard of Moonlighter before or are wondering if it’s worth adding to your library, the classic RPG offers an incredibly unique genre mix between Legend of Zelda-like dungeon-crawling and a store management simulator where you sell off all the treasures you collect in between adventures.

Offering a satisfying gameplay loop where you explore through Moonlighter’s roguelike dungeons, sell goods, and use the money to upgrade various facilities around the village. These upgrades then increase your dungeon-crawling capabilities even further through unlocking new gear or item upgrades for your next run or even workers to help run your shop, making it incredibly easy to get lost in the charmingly pixelated world offered by Moonlighter.

Moonlighter’s Sequel Is Already Off To A Great Start

If you do find yourself enjoying everything Moonlighter’s relatively short story has to offer, you can also try out its sequel, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, for free as well. Without a time limit this time around, you won’t need to worry about missing out as the recently released demo isn’t going away anytime soon.

Offering a similar gameplay concept but this time in an entirely new three-dimensional isometric combat experience and plenty of new gameplay mechanics and bosses to face off against in your adventures, Moonlighter 2 has already come fairly far since it initially launched in early access in 2025.
