Stonemaier Games has announced two new board game projects. The first is Finspan: Sharks & Reefs, an official expansion to the sealife preservation board game. The other is Euphoria Essential Edition, a revised version of the dystopian worker placement game.
Stonemaier Games and Finspan: Sharks & Reefs
In an official press release, Finspan: Sharks & Reefs introduces new rules and game pieces, allowing players to nurture their own coral reef. These reefs will attract powerful fish, unlock fish abilities, and score bonuses at the end of the game. In addition, sharks will scatter your schools of fish, leaving behind food scraps that any fish in your ocean can consume.
You will need the Finspan base game to play this expansion. The expansion will contain a card tray, designed to contain game pieces for current and future expansion cards and tokens. This tray is designed to conveniently fit in the base game’s box.
Finspan: Sharks & Reefs is the first expansion for Finspan. The game is seen as a companion to Wingspan, the bird-themed board game designed by Elizabeth Hargrave, and Wyrmspan, the fantasy-themed game about managing a dragon sanctuary. At the time of writing, no price has been listed, but orders made on Stonemaier’s website will be fulfilled in May 2026, with a retail release coming in mid-June.
The Euphoria Essential Edition Announcement
The second board game, Euphoria Essential Edition, is a revised version of the original 2014 board game combined with the 2019 Ignorance is Bliss expansion. This edition introduces revised rules and components alongside an updated board layout.
The unique hook of Euphoria Essential Edition is that it is a worker placement game where you are the head of a dystopian society. Your workers are represented by dice, the result representing that worker’s knowledge. This knowledge is compared to the knowledge of other players’ workers.
As workers move through your city and more workers are added, the more will discover about the twisted society you rule over. If they learn too much, they may leave your cause, leading to a drain of crucial workers.
If you already own Euphoria, an update pack will be made available. This pack will include the updated board layout, revised rulebooks, and smaller artifact cards.
At time of writing, no release date or price has been listed for Euphoria Essential Edition.
