The official Super Mario Bros. website seems to be teasing more Mario games than were announced during this week’s massive Nintendo Direct.
Yesterday, September 13, marked the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the crowning jewel in Nintendo’s crown. That milestone was celebrated in this week’s Nintendo Direct, as nearly half of the whole presentation was dedicated to Mario announcements, from ports of Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 to the reveal of the second movie’s title.
As great as it is that we’re getting another Mario Tennis game and a Talking Flower statue, I think most would agree that the Mario announcements were missing a big hook. Worry not, 3D Mario hopefuls, as it seems that the official website has confirmed that more reveals are coming in the future.

            Who Would Have Thought?

Over on Twitter, Stealth40k pointed out that the official Super Mario Bros. website had been updated to reflect the 40th anniversary theme that the Direct had. The website now shows all of the games and merchandise that were announced during the Direct, from Yoshi and the Mysterious Book to the Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
The interesting thing about the website update is the blurb right at the top, which calls it a “sneak peek at a few of the upcoming games”, suggesting that more announcements and reveals could be on the way. Of course, we all hope that means the next big 3D Mario game, but it really could be anything.
I know what you’re thinking – “Of course we’re going to get more Mario games”. You’re not wrong there, but it is interesting that Nintendo is specifically saying that the Direct only revealed “a few” of the ones on the horizon. It was even mentioned in the Direct that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book was the last Mario game of “this presentation”.
For now, it’s nothing more than a bit of hope for anyone who wasn’t too pumped about what was shown at the Nintendo Direct, but it’s clear that Nintendo has a lot more Mario games in the works.
