Whether it’s when you’re first choosing your starter Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, when you obtain one of the other region’s beloved starters, or when you just connect with a good Grass-type Pokemon, we bet you’re going to fall in love with these earthy teammates in no time!
The Grass typing in Pokemon has long been a fan-favorite, but with so many unique Grass Pokemon available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A between the base game itself and the rifts across Hyperspace Lumiose in the Mega Dimension DLC, you’d be wise to make it a priority to find and train these Pokemon.

Maybe it’s a bit of a surprise to see a Pokemon you’d expect to see on our list of the best Ice-types here in our picks for the best Grass Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A (and don’t worry, it’ll be there too!), but that’s part of what makes Abomasnow so great – how trainers sometimes don’t see its powerful array of Grass moves coming.
The Best Catches In Every Wild Zone In Pokemon Legends: Z-A
You should probably still catch ’em all, of course, but if you have to focus on any of them…
This dual-typing on our favorite abominable snowman Pokemon makes for one heck of a leg up in battle even before you have your Abomasnow go Mega. While it might be big and slow in terms of speed, it more than makes up for it with sheer firepower when you call it onto the battlefield.
Trevanent
We hope you had an easy enough time dealing with this difficult Alpha Pokemon over in Wild Zone 13, but if you managed to capture the Trevanent on a mission to hunt you down and haunt you as you’re exploring that area of the Rouge Sector, then you’ve no doubt learned how beneficial a teammate it can be.
We don’t often see dual typings with Grass and Ghost, but it’s always interesting to see the different ways The Pokemon Team comes up with to experiment. While you don’t get a Mega Evolution stone to use with your favorite Ghost and Grass hybrid, its base stats make it more than worth catching and adding to your Grass teams.

Grass is always ripe for dual-typing, but we really love the creativity when it came to Scovillain, the Spicy Pepper Pokemon who made its debut earlier in generation nine. It was a fan-favorite in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, so we’re sure we’re not the only ones who were excited to see it return for the Mega Dimension DLC.
Scovillain is another Pokemon whose Attack and Special Attack stats are equal, and its new mega form keeps this boost evenly spread to ensure you’ve got the same kind of elemental coverage no matter how you choose to deal damage out on the battlefield. We like to imagine the Fire-type attacks come from the red head, while the Grass-types come from the green.

The Hoenn starters are fan-favorites for anyone who fell in love with Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald back in the day, and these Grass-type lovers will be more than pleased to know that the Forest Pokemon returns once again in the Mega Dimension DLC to rejoin your Pokemon adventure team.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Strongest Pokemon Tier List
The strongest Mega Evolutions stake their claim.
It’s a Special Attacker whose stats only improve once you give it a Sceptilite and have it use its Mega Evolution on the battlefield, and you’ll find the steep Speed stat increase to be of huge help as well. While it’s not the most powerful of the starter Pokemon’s final evolutions, you’ll get great mileage out of its high Special Attack and Speed stats.

It’s not often on these types of lists of best Pokemon typings, especially with one of the three core types, that random Pokemon beat out the well-established power and fan-favorite status of the Pokemon starters, but even if Mega Victreebel looks incredibly silly, it’s got stats that are well worth bragging about.
Victreebel has a good balance in its types of attacks, and Mega Victreebel sees marked improvements for both Attack and Special Attack stats when it uses its Mega Stone. The boost for Special Attack is a bit bigger, but regardless, your Mega Victreebel will have no time sweeping the floor with your opponents in battle.

If you went with Chikorita when you first arrived in Lumiose City for your adventure in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, then we don’t have to convince you of how powerful its final form Meganium can be, even before you give it its Meganiumite and have it go Mega with its new Mega Evolution added in this gen nine title.
Its Mega Evolution takes what was once a fair balance between physical and Special Attack and specs you instead into being a pure Special Attacker with your Mega Meganium. Your defense of both varieties is pretty impressive as well, so you’ll be hitting hard with Mega Meganium while taking minimal damage in exchange.

You’ll enjoy a nice dual-typing with Chesnaught, the final form of the Kalos starter Chespin, who evolves into the Fighting type as well as the Grass typing when reaching its final evolution at level 36. Like the other Kalos starters, Chesnaught was the recipient of a particularly potent Mega Evolution form in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and it makes it one of the very best Grass-types in the game.
Chesnaught has always had powerful offensive capabilities, but you’ll find plenty of good use for its staggering defensive stats as well, particularly when it goes Mega and sees one of the highest base Defense stats in the whole of the game. With access to strong moves like Wood Hammer at upper levels, Chesnaught is something of a must-have for Grass trainers.
Just use something to recover its Speed, since Chesnaught isn’t renowned for being fast.

Fans of the original Pokemon games may be bringing their love for the original Grass starter’s final evolution into Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and with good reason – Venusaur and its potential Mega Evolution form are some of the very best Grass-type Pokemon in the whole of the game.
It enjoys a dual-typing between Grass and Poison as well, and its already impressive Special Attack and Special Defense stats only skyrocket further when you have your Venusaur go Mega during battle. With top-tier moves for both its typings, with Grass giving it Solar Beam and Sludge Wave coming from its Poison secondary type, Venusaur is a force to be reckoned with in battle.
