Hollow Knight: Silksong has just barely stepped out of its shell, and the pre-existing community is already trying to find ways to tweak it. From adding new mechanics to altering existing ones, people are already hard at work to weave new tools into Silksong.
Now, at its core, the design choices were made for a reason, usually revolving around how all the mechanics interact with each other. But there are certain things we’d like just for convenience or to lighten the load of the challenge. For now, these are some of the best mods you can add to Silksong to improve its handling.
No Double Damage
Ease Up On Harm
- Download No Double Damage by Baiker here!
One of the first things you’ll have to get used to when playing Silksong is that your health is displayed as points rather than a bar. Most enemies will deal one point of damage, which isn’t bad, until you realize that other enemies (specifically bosses) can do up to two points.
With that in mind, the No Double Damage mod is a blessing to get the most out of your current health pool. Plug this right into your game, and you’ll remove enemies’ ability to hit you for two masks until you feel comfortable (or have increased your health enough) to turn it off.
Show Healthbar
See Your Progress
- Download Show Healthbar by xiaohai here!
Another defining aspect of Silksong combat is the boss fights. It boasts a fair number of required and optional bosses, both hard and less hard, that will quickly breed frustration. What doesn’t help is that boss health is invisible, with your only indicators of progress being the boss becoming angrier and eventually dying.
That’s why the Show Healthbar mod can provide a nice sense of comfort. To make Silksong more like its older sibling soulslikes, add this mod so you can see just how much hurt you’re putting on each boss.
Magnet Effect
Pull All The Things
- Download Magnet Effect by LordGregory here!
Silksong quickly introduces two collectible currencies: Shards and Rosary Beads. Both have their uses, and both can be harvested from specific points and dropped by enemies. What can be annoying is that both are literal loose change that can bounce around and be sent flying when trying to get them.
Considering how much danger tends to lurk nearby, the Magent Effect just makes good sense. This mod gives you an inherent Magnet ability as granted by a specific item so that you can more efficiently (and safely) collect any currency as it appears.
Teleport
Be Here And There
- Download Teleport by YMC_MHZ here!
If you’re going to play Silksong, be prepared to do a lot of walking. The only form of fast travel you have is Bell Beast Stations that need to be unlocked and are in set locations. So if you missed something far off in the corner, be prepared to trek from the last bench you sat on, unless you have the Teleport mode.
This mod is strange in how it works: It allows you to save Hornet’s position and then load her into it at any time. This can cut down travel time significantly, but make sure you run plenty of tests first.
Attack Range
Reach For The Scars
- Download Attack Range by MorniaOwO here!
Even though Hornet’s Needle weapon is noticeably longer than the Knight’s Nail, its range leaves something to be desired. It’s unfortunate how close to danger you need to get to use the Needle effectively when you’d rather be anywhere else.
Before you start gathering powers and tools, consider the Attack Range mod for some help. This mod allows you to tweak Hornet’s attack range to give you some more reach for every swing and thrust. It may not sound like much, but a few minutes playing Silksong will show just how valuable it can be.
Rosary Drop
Baddies With Beads
- Download Rosary Drop by YukkuriC here!
Of the two currencies available, Rosary Beads are easily the more desirable. Almost every vendor (especially the important ones) trades in Rosary Beads and wants a lot of them. Unfortunately, they can be much rarer than Shards and tend to roll and bounce when dropped, leaving you chasing after them and into potential death.
If you want to mitigate this, install the Rosary Drop mod as soon as you can. Quite simply, it makes it so that every type of enemy drops Rosary Beads on death. When it rains, it pours, and gives you far more chances to catch drops in your palms.
Easy Deliveries
No Patching Up Packages
- Download Easy Deliveries by LordGregory here!
Anyone who explored Hollow Knight may remember a quest that required you to deliver a flower that would be destroyed via fast travel or taking any damage. Whether or not you still have nightmares about that, the delivery mechanic returns in Silksong with even more delicate deliveries.
The game is already stressful enough just trying to stay alive, and that’s why you should check out Easy Deliveries. This mod makes it so that the usual mistakes will not destroy delicate items. Yes, it takes away the main challenge, but considering how long these deliveries are, just getting them there alive is an accomplishment.
Constant Compass
Always Know Where
- Download Constant Compass by LordGregory here!
You may think you have a natural sense of direction, but Silksong will test that. Thankfully, the maps return as purchasable items, and you can fill them in the more you explore and whenever you rest on a bench. However, it can be tricky to keep track of yourself with all the winding tunnels and shortcuts.
Thus, instead of keeping the Compass constantly equipped, install Constant Compass. This mod gives you the effect of having the Compass equipped while leaving a space free for a non-compass accessory. It may not be flashy, but dang if it isn’t handy.
