Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s lead (and total legend) Tati Gabrielle has responded to all of the unearned backlash the reveal trailer got and said that it’s only motivated her to work even harder.
Although Naughty Dog has gotten its fair share of flak over the past few years for focusing too much on remasters instead of new projects, it’s still one of the best developers out there by a country mile. That’s why we were all looking forward to finding out what its next big game after The Last of Us Part 2 was going to be.
Those hopes were answered at The Game Awards, where it was revealed that Naughty Dog was making a new sci-fi adventure called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which stars Naughty Dog alum Tati Gabrielle. Sadly, Intergalactic was instantly met with a ton of backlash simply due to the fact that it’s another game from the studio that stars a woman.
Tati Gabrielle Isn’t Worried About Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Backlash
She Knows As Well As We Do That Everyone Will Play It Anyway
The Last of Us Part 2 ran into the same problem with Ellie and Abby, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise to see Intergalactic received the same way, even if the backlash was a whole lot louder. Tati Gabrielle has been fairly open about how she feels about the controversy in the past, but she’s shared some more thoughts during a recent interview with SuperGuidaTV.
As pointed out by Twitter user DomTheBombYT, Gabrielle was asked about the backlash that Intergalactic has received since it was announced. In response, Gabrielle admits that it was hurtful “to know that there was so much hatred”, especially considering video games give creators the best chance to imagine new and exciting worlds.
At the same time, though, Gabrielle says it’s been “empowering” for her and that she wants to change the world by meeting it where it’s at. She also says that the backlash has caused her to go “ten times harder” in the role and that she’s taking the negativity and used it as motivation to prove any of the doubters wrong.
It’s sad to see that… video games, even more than TV and film, – you have so much world to play with. We can demonstrate what the world can be in ways and worlds we could never dream of. To know that there was so much hatred and so much backlash, it was hurtful. – Tati Gabrielle
More than anything, Gabrielle is more than aware that everyone who has been hating on Intergalactic so far is going to end up playing it and loving it, which shows how much confidence she has in Naughty Dog and herself. Here’s hoping all the silly uproar ends up fading away the next time we see Intergalactic.
