If you haven’t been paying attention, the recently released Mafia: The Old Country has been embroiled in a controversy of sorts, and it has nothing to do with bugs, glitches or broken gameplay. Rather, it has to do with something the game doesn’t have, at least in the traditional sense … swimming.
Originally, a user shared that, like in previous games in the Mafia franchise, there is no ability to swim. That, somehow, set off an ages-old debate when it comes to what players can and can’t do in a video game.
Except, there’s just one problem — there is swimming in The Old Country, just not how you’d expect it to work.
Is Swimming Truly That Important In A Video Game?
In a new post shared on social media, The Old Country does have some form of swimming in it.
The game’s main character, Enzo Favera, can technically wade in the water momentarily before swimming back to shore, albeit off-screen. Still, even for a few milliseconds, the game does feature the ability to, well, swim.
Of course, it wasn’t too long before people began complaining about the physics that are present and how “half-baked” they are. It seems like, no matter what, no one will be pleased, so, for now, the “controversy” will seemingly rage on.
