Two enemies in The Outer Worlds 2 apparently make it “impossible” to complete a pacifist run, which one unfortunate player has learned the hard way.
Although The Outer Worlds 2 has noticeably better gunplay than the first game and you can feasibly go around killing pretty much anyone you like, I think we’re all in agreement that talking, sneaking, and tricking your way out of situations is the best way to play. With that in mind, the most dedicated players are likely to attempt a pacifist run where they complete the game without killing anyone.
Pacifist runs have been doable in previous Obsidian games like Fallout New Vegas and even the first Outer Worlds, so you’d expect that to be true of The Outer Worlds 2 as well. As it turns out, though, that apparently isn’t the case, as a single quest means that it’s “impossible” to do a true pacifist run.
The Outer Worlds 2 Is Apparently “Impossible” To Complete As A Pacifist Right Now
It Seems Like An Easy Enough Fix From Obsidian, Though
Over on The Outer Worlds subreddit, Redditor Towrads shared their heartbreaking story of learning the hard way that The Outer Worlds 2 doesn’t let you do a full pacifist run. According to them, they were in the middle of a successful pacifist run before hitting the main story quest, “Friends in High Places”.
At one point during this unavoidable quest, there’s an extendable bridge that causes enemies to spawn and have to be “dealt with” before reaching the next area. That includes Automechs, which can just be disabled, and two snipers, who are apparently the big reason why a pacifist run isn’t possible right now.
Towrads points out that these snipers have to be killed to progress the mission, and there’s no way of sneaking past or avoiding the conflict altogether. They’ve tried breaking aggro and baiting friendly fire so they kill each other, but neither method works, meaning that these two are standing in the way of a complete pacifist run.
Considering “Friends in High Places” is a main story quest, all of this means that The Outer Worlds 2 is seemingly impossible to beat as a pacifist right now. I’m betting that some tricky players will figure out a clever way to get past without killing the snipers soon, but for now, it seems like we’ll have to wait and see if Obsidian eventually changes the quest.
