The Rogue Prince of Persia might not be one of the most popular roguelites around, but it’s charmed enough veterans and newcomers since it launched into 1.0 last year. We figured it would be ending its development run shortly afterwards, but Evil Empire (one of the studios now hard at work on the next Castlevania) isn’t done upgrading it yet.
On 16th February, the developer revealed a spring 2026 roadmap featuring two major updates currently scheduled to drop in April and May. You can check it out below:
First up, the ‘Breathless Update’ will add the Freeze element, arenas, a higher difficulty option, weapon and tool affixes, new tools, new medallions, faster pacing, and other improvements which aim to both amp up and streamline the overall experience. What does the team mean by “faster pacing”? Well, it appears the first hour of the game is getting a substantial rework, and then we’ll have “quicker and tougher” versions of the following biomes. This will be done through updates to the level design and the difficulty provided by enemies (regular and bosses alike).
Later, the ‘Endgame Update’ (which hasn’t been fully locked down yet) will add the Nyamtur trials for “risk & reward” across all levels, a still-undefined “parkour mode,” and a rework of the Palace biome. Moreover, challenges and pets (we don’t know anything about them yet) are coming. Even Evil Empire isn’t sure about what will be included in this one, but the devs are confident it might be even larger in the end.
As an extra, The Rogue Prince of Persia is kicking off 2026 with a new tool that’s already available in-game: “We’ve added the Flaming Horses — a tool that will unleash a herd of flaming horses that charge forward, leaving a burning trail behind them.” Cool stuff.
