Season four of Netflix’s The Witcher came and went without leaving much of an impression on anybody. The latest season was doomed from the beginning as many fans mourned the departure of Henry Cavill from the role of Geralt, but the show itself wasn’t doing great in the first place. Liam Hemsworth had the unenviable task of replacing Cavill and, while he did a decent job, the season itself was mediocre at best.
CDPR Not Putting Meaningless Fetch Quests In The Witcher 4 Doesn’t Mean It Won’t Have Plenty Of Filler
The quests may have meaning, but plenty of them are still rote.
While the fan backlash was primarily towards the producers for deviating too much from the source material, Hemsworth unfortunately received a lot of it as well as Cavill’s replacement. However, it seems the voice of Geralt from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Doug Cockle, thinks he did a fantastic job.
Doug Cockle Thinks Liam Hemsworth Did A Great Job As Geralt
Speaking to GamesRadar+ at the Golden Joystick Awards, Cockle said he was disappointed to see Cavill go, but Hemsworth was a great replacement. “I loved Henry. He was a fantastic Witcher, Geralt, specifically, so I was sad to see him go, but I have watched the newest season, and I think Liam holds up pretty well. He’s different. He’s made it his own character, and that’s what he should have done as an actor, and I think he’s done a fantastic job. So I’m looking forward to seeing season five eventually, and seeing where it goes.”
Cavill did a fantastic job of bringing Geralt to life, and, while Hemsworth may not have the same physical presence, he definitely portrayed the show’s version of the Witcher in the best possible manner.
Ten Years On, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remains A Pillar Of Fantasy Games
I’m starting to feel as old as Geralt looks.
Cockle’s deep and gruff voice has become iconic for portraying Geralt in the games, so much so that the show tried to replicate his grunts and groans. Thankfully, we know from the trailer that he will be returning to the role in some form for The Witcher 4, even though Ciri has replaced Geralt as the protagonist.
Previously, the voice actor has shown support for Ciri taking over from Geralt as the protagonist of the video game series, saying that those who think it’s a woke decision should read the books.
