People think that there is only one way of thinking and cannot allow people to be people.
We live in a time where nuance gets you cancelled and your career destroyed, so obviously people are going to write one-dimensional characters where the good guys do no wrong and the bad guys are mustache-twirling evil.
It blew me away how complicated and nuanced they made the Baron.
The writing is immaculate in this game. I still give it a playthrough every now and again.

One of not the best pieces of writing is Dorian Pavus.
His relationship with his father is something you can encourage him to solve. Not for your own sense of purity, or for some sense of acceptance but for Dorians healing.

Nope. This is not how games used to be. This is ONE game with good dialogue in it. Don't pretend that all games in the past were like this, because they weren't. This is just a classic case of blowing things massively out of proportion over social media. Yes some games are including "woke" stuff in a really cringeworthy way, like the new Dragonage game, but so what? You don't have to focus on individual games like that, and act as though no-one writes decent dialogue in anything any more. That's so silly and melodramatic!

The best part is the witcher is no longer human and has no emotions but come to find out he might have the most emotions without being emotive. Such a beautiful game. Such a deep layered character that gets ruined by things like the tv show…

It is wokeness. It is DEI. It is social issues. Because they have been prioritized over MERIT. Because certain topics can't be explored because they are offensive.

Today, it feels more that, not devs itself, but the writers are more concerned on how to teach us about their ideals instead of create more human NPCs and good history. Don't know if it's about this or if it's just a lack of real talent or lazyness.

what makes this game amazing is that the game reveal wasn't even in the main story lol it was the DLC they had it planned that far ahead. THIS IS HOW GAMES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MADE!
The other side of the Baron…he knows he's a bad guy too. But he also knows Anna was no saint. He was fighting wars and she was lonely…so she went out and had a long term affair and planned to run away long before she did. If you avoid these conversations in the game, you only get "The Baron is a monster!" side. But he's a human being and he was deeply hurt. He violently overreacted but he's lived a violent life in a violent world. He knows no other way…and when it goes bad he knows no way to get back. And the other side won't even let him try. The daughter was victimized, but she was also indoctrinated by her mother, if not actively then just by being there. The Baron was gone, so the only side the daughter knew was her mother's side. The Baron's marriage began wonderfully, but a chaotic world tore at it and both he and his wife acted as humans do. Not just in video games but in the real world. It's simply wonderful writing…but it's not "woke." Which is why people still love this game while more recent games come and go so quickly.
I think the root of the problem is that we want to see/studios think we want to see our ideals made into characters. But an ideal is one-dimentional, it stops being a good thing as soon as it tries to be anything but a thought.
The funny thing is that we live in a very complicated historical period and where everything is going to shit, but we don't want to see any representation of any of that in media. We just want to live in fairyland where everything is perfect, bad people are bad because they are, and good people are good because yes.
And the funniest thing is that once we're presented with these things we immediately cringe and dislike that, it's like bad CGI, you immediately see that something is wrong. It's boring not exploring the filth of humanity in an impartial way.
Bad people are bad because of what they do, not because some "god" with a pen wrote them this way.
