Valve just unveiled a new console, confirming the existence of the Steam Machine. It will be with us in early 2026, alongside a new controller and headset.
This comes as various leaks and rumours point to Half-Life 3 not only being real, but ready for a reveal. Some expected the long-awaited sequel to be teased today, but now, rumours point to Half-Life 3 finally being confirmed by next week.
The Steam Machine is a cube-shaped console that is much smaller than we expected. Boasting “six times the horsepower” of a Steam Deck, it shows that Valve is going all-in on hardware following the success of the Steam Deck. Much like the Steam Deck, the appeal is that you can use it to access Steam, giving you a huge library of games that the main consoles might not have.
It was previously reported that a Half-Life 3 reveal trailer was in production, ready for a November reveal. Then, there’s the fact that the Steam Autumn Sale was earlier than usual, leaving a large gap between that and the Winter Sale. That gap could then be used to unveil Half-Life 3, since that would take up most of the hype – and Valve would probably want to encourage us to pre-order that over anything else.
