Where Winds Meet confirmed to be getting DLSS 5 update next month

DLSS 5 has been a rather contentious topic ever since NVIDIA first unveiled the technology earlier this year. In the months since, we have seen NVIDIA continue to refine the upscaler across multiple fonts, becoming more performant while giving developers a wider parameter of options to tweak and adjust. Having officially started rolling out last month, the company has now announced that DLSS 5 will be coming to the free-to-play open world action-RPG Where Winds Meet sometime this November.

Alongside the official announcement that DLSS 5 will be supported on NVIDIA’s RTX Spark laptops (thanks to a new model which is said to be twice as performant), the company confirmed that more games will be implementing the technology officially. One such title is Where Winds Meet – the open-world action-adventure RPG developed by Everstone Studio and published by NetEase.

Set to go live some time in “late November” the update will introduce “DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering […] further enhancing its world and characters.”

For better or for worse, its implementation in Where Winds Meet appears to be far subtler when compared to some of NVIDIA’s earlier examples, maintaining the original game’s art style and aesthetic while enhancing shadows and reflections in particular.

Though we did not get any close-up footage, it appears as though character faces aren’t being tampered with too much either, similarly focusing instead on enhancing perceived facial depth and shadows while maintaining its overall structure.

Of course, we will have to wait and see how the game truly looks / runs when the update officially arrives in around a month’s time – especially as the footage showcased so far has been slow-moving shots which is not the most representative of the gameplay itself.
