Which Party Members Should You Use For Each Palace In Persona 5 Royal?

Dungeons are known as palaces in Persona 5 Royal, with the ruler of each having “distorted desires” that lead them down truly vile paths. But as the game goes on and the enemies become stronger and more varied, you’ll do well to rotate party setups to maximize your efficiency inside, meaning you’ll need to know which party is best for each palace in P5R.

10 Things To Know Before Starting Persona 5 Royal

Due to the calendar system and all of the new additions made by Atlus, it pays to have a few things in mind before starting Persona 5 Royal.

We know it’s easy to fall into a pattern with your party, but smart variation can make palaces even smoother than before. To find the best team for each palace in P5R, we’ve got you covered.

Updated on October 15, 2025: Playing Persona 5 Royal and looking for the best team for each Palace in the game? We’re circling back to our guide on the best party for each dungeon to make sure we still stand by our selections, as well as to add some information on how best to use Joker’s Persona stock for each dungeon to accommodate the team selections we recommend.

This guide contains major spoilers for the gameplay of Persona 5 Royal, both the primary story and the third semester bonus content.

We’ve opted out of covering Kamoshida’s Castle for this guide, as the party is set for that dungeon.

How To Build Your Team

persona 5 royal preparing the team to fight shido intro dialogue

Step One: Choose A Party To Bring Into The Palace

Every Palace in Persona 5 Royal is likely going to be full of enemies meant to accommodate any party member you’ve gained in that chapter of the game (Yusuke in Madarame’s Museum, Haru in Okumura’s Spaceport, etc.), so when recruiting teammates outside the Palace before you head inside, it’s usually wise to bring who you unlocked along with two other proven battle teammates.

Your teammates, while powerful allies, are always going to be fairly specialized fighters, always relying on one element for their magic damage and coming with additional moves like physical damage skills, buffs/defuffs, and healing. No matter which teammates you use, you’ll find this to be true for every Palace in Persona 5 Royal.

Step Two: Use Joker’s Persona Stock To Fill Coverage Gaps

Back in the old days of the Persona series, you couldn’t even control your teammates’ actions in battle, leading to some frustrating situations of them healing the enemies or falling to status effects at the worst of times. Thankfully, this has changed in the more recent games, but veteran players still advise using Joker’s Persona list to fill gaps left by the party you’re bringing into any dungeon.

An empty Velvet Room in P5R

As such, after you’ve assembled the party for your next Palace expedition, you’ll want to visit the Velvet Room before entering the palace to make sure you’ve got your own stock of Personas for Joker that cover elemental, damage, or support buffs left by your selection for the dungeon crawl ahead. There’s an entrance to the Velvet Room outside of every single Palace, but you can always visit beforehand if you know your plan for the Palace.

For example, if you’ve got a team that provides Fire, Ice, and Electric damage, you’ll likely want Personas for Joker that deal Wind, Nuclear, Psy, Bless, or Curse in your stock. Or, if you’ve got a slew of good physical damage-dealers in the party, relegate Joker to the elemental damage and let the fighters take the physical lead.

Best Team For Madarame’s Palace

Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke, and Morgana in front of Madarame's Museum Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

Madarame’s Palace is interesting in that you don’t have access to your new party member, Yusuke Kitagawa, until you’re halfway through it. After Yusuke joins the Phantom Thieves, the best party for Madarame’s Palace becomes Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke. This palace also establishes a trend in Persona 5 that the current palace plays into the newest party member’s strengths — so naturally, it plays well into Yusuke’s. With the recommended level for the Madarame boss battle being around level 19, be sure you’re strengthening the team along the way.

How To Use Mona Until Unlocking Yusuke

Before you’re allowed to switch to Yusuke after he awakens to his Persona halfway through your Palae infiltration, you’ll need to use Morgana as your final teammate like you did back in Kamoshida’s Castle. With him around, you’ve got your Wind magic and healing support, but swapping him for Yusuke leaves you without this coverage.

As such, have Mona cover Wind magic until the time comes to swap him, then recover the loss with Joker’s Personas to ensure you keep that Wind coverage throughout. Until then, have Joker use Ice Personas to cover for Yusuke until he joins the party, then have Joker swap to Wind and support in Mona’s place.

Notes

Ryuji

  • Electric Magic
  • Physical Damage

You’ll definitely find Shadows ahead that are weak to Ryuji’s Electric skills, but his main strength here will be using Physical attacks to save on SP whenever you need to conserve.

Ann

  • Fire Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

Ann fills the role of your primary supportfor this Palace, with her ability to debuff Shadows playing critical roles in later boss battles. You’ll find Shadows who are weak to the Fire magic she uses, too.

Morgana (First Half)

  • Wind Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

Before unlocking your new teammate, Morgana is your default final teammate for the first half of Madarame’s Museum. He’s got the same powerful Wind magic to use when applicable.

Yusuke (Second Half)

  • Ice Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Support

Once you unlock Yusuke, you’ll gain access to his potentIce attacks, which bring with them the power to potentially inflict Freezeto stop the enemy for a turn or two. There are plenty of Shadows in the back half of the Palace weak to Ice, so come prepared. He deals pretty solid Physical Damage as well and can offer some support by buffing your Agility as well.

Notes

Jack Frost

Magician

Before you bring Yusuke into the party, Jack Frost provides your Ice coverage with Bufu and Mabufualike, gaining Freeze Boost as well to help inflict Freeze.

High Pixie

Fool

Once Yusuke has joined, Morgana’s Wind skills are gone, so it’s up to Joker to recover from them for the boss fight. High Pixie knows Garu (as well as a slew of healing and status effect moves), and will gain Magaru a little later at level 22.

Best Team For Kaneshiro’s Palace

Ann, Makoto, and Ryuji in front of Kaneshiro's Bank Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

Kaneshiro’s Bank of Gluttony introduces a true powerhouse of a party member in Makoto Niijima. With her nuclear skills, which were new to Persona 5, Makoto makes a great addition to the team, especially here. Round out the party with Ann and Ryuji for the easiest time in Kaneshiro’s Bank. You’ll want to aim to be around level 26 before approaching the Kaneshiro boss fight, so train your team and your Personas accordingly.

Notes

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing

Like you experienced once Yusuke joined up in the last Palace, plenty of the enemies are weak to Nuclearin Kaneshiro’s Palace. Not only does this hit well on its own, but when paired with Ann or a FirePersona for Joker, you can compound your damage output by dealing more Nucleardamage to BurnedShadows. She’s got good Physical Damage output as well, if she’s low on SP, and she can handle some healing for the team as well.

Ann

  • Fire Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

As with the last Palace, you’ll find that Ann deals good Firedamage, especially as she begins to level into the mid-tier Agi-skills. She’s also still great for support with her debuffs, should you need, but keep her inflicting Burnon Shadows to allow Makoto to follow up for an extra punch. She can heal the team in a pinch, too!

Ryuji

  • Electric Magic
  • Physical Damage

Again, Ryuji deals good Electricdamage to Shadows, also leveling up into mid-level Zio skills. His Physical Damage is a good way to conserve SP and let the ladies work on their status buffs, but he’ll also stand a chance to inflict Shock.

Best Personas For Joker

Notes

Sui-Ki

Moon

Without Yusuke in the party, you’ll want to use Sui-Ki with Mabufu and Bufula to deal good Ice magic if needed.

Fuu-Kii

Star

Using Joker’s Persona stock to fill gaps is always a good idea, so have Fuu-Ki around to use Garula and Magarula for medium-level Wind damage. It’s also got Tarukaja and Tetra Break for support.

This palace is long and requires plenty of stealth, so be on your toes throughout. Bring plenty of SP-replenishing items if you’re trying to do this Palace in a single day.

Best Team For Futaba’s Palace

Ann, Yusuke, and Makoto in front of Futaba's Pyramid Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

Things start to get tough in Futaba’s Palace, as there are many enemies that have few to no weaknesses, and additionally, this is your longest palace to this point. There is a lot of elemental coverage that you’re able to handle on your own with Joker’s stock of Personas, so the best team for versatility in the rest of your coverage would be Morgana, Makoto, and Yusuke. You’ll want to achieve or approach level 34 for yourself and your teammates for the boss fight here.

Notes

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Support

You’ll still find a good number of Shadows weak to Nuclearhere, so Makoto is a good choice for that alone. She’s also got good Physical Damage should she run low on SP during longer runs, the ability to inflict Confuseto bring Shadows to your side on the battlefield, buff moves to help with the team’s Defense that she’ll be gaining as she levels up to earn some support abilities, and Dekunda to remove any and all stat debuffs from the team.

Yusuke

  • Ice Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Support

Prepare for plenty of Shadows weak to Ice, which makes Yusuke pretty indispensible if you’re not having Joker fill with an Ice Persona. Yusuke also offers Agility buffs – he likely has Auto-Sukukajaby now to boost his own Agility automatically – and increasingly impressive Physical Damage.

Ann

  • Fire Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

You’re going to need healing and support in a Palace as long and tricky as Futaba’s, so Ann helps in that regard. She’s likely to have Diarama before the end of the Palace, so make use of this party-wide healing when needed. She makes a better healer than Morgana here, though, since her Agi skills have a higher chance to inflict Burnnow, which you can follow up on with Nuclearusing Makoto’s move set for double efficacy, or even just Lullaby to put Shadows to sleep for a few turns.

Best Personas For Joker

Name

Arcana

Notes

Kurama Tengu

Hermit

You’re likely light on Wind magic yourself at this level, but Kurama Tengu knows Magarula for medium Wind damage to all foes, compounded with Wind Boost to deal 1.25 times damage.

Thunderbird

Sun

If the name didn’t give it away, you’ll be using this Persona for Electric damage, with access to Mazionga early on (with Ziodyne and Maziodynecoming later, along with Elec Boost to compound them all).

Principality

Justice

Should you need some extra Healing or Support, Principality is the best choice for this level.

Best Team For Okumura’s Palace

Haru, Morgana, and Makoto in front of Okumura's Spaceport Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

Okumura’s Spaceport Palace is far from most players’ favorite palace in Persona 5 Royal, due in large part to how complicated and unforgiving it can be if you’re under-prepared, but with his daughter Haru Okumura joining the team gives access to your final type of magic – Psio. Truly, all party members may be tough to use here on account of the wide range of affinities, the longer length of the palace, and some rather cruel mini-bosses that all lead to a timed final boss fight. Using Joker wisely here is all but essential!

For the easiest time facing the Okumura’s Spaceport palace in Persona 5 Royal, we’d suggest bringing Haru, Makoto, and Morgana. Raise them to around level 43 before taking on the Okumura boss fight (which was thankfully simplified in this remake). Try to reach level 43 before you approach the boss fight against Shadow Okumura.

Notes

Haru

  • Psio Magic
  • Physical Damage

Like plenty of Palaces before her fathers, you’ll find ample use for Haru’s Psioskills here, with plenty of Shadows weak to her move set. Additionally, she’s got a grenade launcher as her default attack, which doesn’t consume her HP or SP to use to inflict multi-target Physical Damageif you’re in need of some conservation.

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing
  • Support

Again, Makoto’s Nuclearskills will take center stage pretty often here, especially if she acquires Nuke Break to negate weaknesses to Nuclear to really double down if needed. She’s got Auto-Rakukaja now for a free and immediate Defense boost, goodPhysical Damage moves for if her SP runs low, and Mediarama to help heal the party (and recover HP if you’re using her Phys moves instead).

Morgana

  • Wind Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

Mona steps back into a healing role here again, having gained Mediarama earlier at level 34. He’s on the medium-damage Wind skills now, with Wind Boost at level 43 to improve this damage output if he reaches our recommended level before or during your infiltration.

Best Personas For Joker

Name

Arcana

Notes

Atropos

Fortune

There’s a lot of good damage to be done with Atropos, with Ziodynethis early in the game on top of Mazionga for multi-target situations. It’ll likely also have Elec Boost to deal more damage, and Elec Break to make enemies susceptible to Electric damage if they’re not already.

Belphegor

Tower

Another Persona with a heavy single-target attack and a mid-level multi-target one, Belphegor will know Mabufula innately and can learn Bufudyneat level 41. It’s also got Dodge Fire to help negate its Fire weakness.

Decarabia

Councillor

You’ll need to level Decarabia up a bit to make it viable in Okumura’s Spaceport, but it’s got Agilao and Agidyne to go with Makoto’s Nuclear magic, as well as Megidola for early access to an Almighty skill.

You need to plan carefully for several of the boss fights in Okumura’s Palace, as their affinities are limited and their attacks are strong. Using Joker’s Personas here as a blanket for what your teammates don’t cover is a must.

Best Team For Sae’s Palace

Ann, Makoto, and Akechi in front of Sae's Casino Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

Finally, you’re about to finish circling back to the beginning of the story and will catch up with the present day once you finish Sae’s Casino Palace. You’ll see that the Detective Prince Goro Akechi has joined the Phantom Thieves for this infiltration, and his skills are of great help in the fights ahead. Just try not to think of all the stuff that’s happened with him so far…

Colorful, bright, and jam-packed with tough shadows and difficult mini-games, your best bet for party members for Sae’s casino are Akechi, Makoto, and Ann. Prepare the team to reach around level 53 before taking on Shadow Sae Niijima.

Notes

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing
  • Support

Though you won’t likely find too many Shadows here directly weak to her skills, using her recently-upgraded Freidyne skill boosted with Nuke Boost to compound damage on BurnedShadows makes her indispensible in her sister’s Casino dungeon. She’s also got Marakukaja at this level, if you’d like to apply her Auto-Rakukaja to the whole party for better Defense in tougher fights.

Ann

  • Fire Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

Getting both Agidyne and Burn Boost into Ann’s move set before this dungeon makes her a powerful Firemagic damage-dealing machine! She’ll have Fire Boost by now, too, to compound the damage on her own, which you can follow up with Makoto’s Nuclearskills to really pack a punch. Matarunda will help your enemies’ attacks not hit as hard with an Attack decrease for the opposing team, and her healing skills will be relevant throughout if you don’t have items to do the job for you.

Akechi

  • Light Magic
  • Dark Magic
  • Almighty Damage
  • Physical Damage

Akechi covers quite a few bases that you haven’t needed to cover very much before. Here, if the Shadows aren’t weak to his Blessskills, they’ll almost certainly be weak to the Dark skills Akechi has as well, both the damage-dealing skills and the insta-kill spells like Hamaonand Mudoon. He deals great Physical Damage if he’s low on SP, and he has few weaknesses of his own for Shadows to exploit. He can even use Megidola to dole out Almighty damage that can’t be blocked.

Garuda

You’re going to want access to Wind magic in Joker’s stock of Personas, and having Garuda gives you access to the single-target Garudyne and multi-target Magarudyne to achieve it.

Norn

Fortune

While you do double up a bit with more access to Garudyne here, too, we brought Norn for the access to Ziodyne combined with healing abilities.

Sarasvati

Priestess

With Ann being the only support character in the team, it’s not a bad idea to give her some backup with Sarasvati.

Best Team For Shido’s Palace

Haru, Makoto, and Ryuji in front of Shido's Cruiseliner Palace for the Persona 5 Royal Best Team for Each Palace guide.

As the game’s primary antagonist to now, Shido’s Palace might be a frustrating one, but it’s oh-so satisfying to finally finish. This is a palace that will absolutely test both your endurance and patience as you make your way through not only as human Phantom Thieves but, interestingly enough, sometimes also as mice. Calling on old faithful teammates for the slog ahead, we went with Ryuji, Haru, and Makoto, who you’ll want to have around level 63 for the harrowing fight against Shadow Masayoshi Shido.

Haru

  • Psio Magic
  • Physical Damage

You’ll once again find Haru’s skills going a long way in this lengthy Palace, with Psiodyne and Psy Boost in your repertoire and Mapsiodyne waiting just ahead at level 64. She’s also gaining access to One-Shot Kill to deal severe Gun Damage, in addition to her multi-shot default grenade attacks. You’ll face a lot of Shadows weak to Physical Damage here, so she’s a good pick.

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing
  • Support

Another teammate whose Physical Damage output is a highlight, Makoto is a great choice for Shido’s Palace. She’ll have Mafreidyne now for heavy Nuclear damage, in addition to Diarahan for increased healing capabilities, and the help from Dekunda will always be invaluable.

Ryuji

  • Electric Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Support

One of your stronger attackers, Ryuji has a slew of powerful Physical and Gun damage skills that cost HP instead of SP available in his move set full of increasingly powerful Electric skills. Chargewill make your next Physical Damage move do 2.5 times the damage, so use it liberally on Shadows weak to Physical damage. Finally, double down on the party’s Attack for a few turns with Matarukaja for help dealing better damage in tougher fights.

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage

Makoto has some incredibly potent Nuclearskills at her max level in Persona 5 Royal, both bolstered by Nuke Amp to ensure she’s dealing 1.5 times damage when using Freidyne and Mafreidyne in the tunnels ahead, especially stacking with Ann’s top-level move set. She can use helpful healing skills and supportabilities to keep the party going in battle, too.

Ann

  • Fire Magic
  • Healing
  • Support

If you’re following our level recommendations, you’ll have access to all of Ann’s moves, which includes Blazing Hell to deal severe Fire damage to all foes with a chance to inflict Burn, bolstered greatly by Fire Amp at level 68. She’ll have Diarahan by now to heal an ally to full health, as well as a slew of support skills to help the party.

Yusuke

  • Ice Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Support

Any Shadows weak toPhysical Damage in this section of the game are no match for Yusuke, who comes into the dungeon with both Vorpal Blade for severe Physical damage to all foes and Brave Blade to deal a staggering Colossal Physical Damage to a single target. His Bufudyne and Mabufudyne are the heaviest Ice damage skills he’ll get, but with High Counterto counter one in five shots he takes and a slew of support skills for the party, he’ll help greatly down here in the Depths.

Akechi

  • Light Magic
  • Dark Magic
  • Almighty Damage
  • Physical Damage
  • Support
  • Healing

While Akechi’s real perks here lie in his Lightand Dark skills alike, he’s only got the single-target versions of the heaviest skills in these families, Kougaonand Eigaon. He’s still got Almightymagic, too, having upgraded to Megidolaon to deal severe damage that cannot be blocked. His Physical Damage output is pretty good, too, but he’ll also have Debilitate to decrease a Shadow’s Attack, Defense, and Agility for three turns to double down on his damage. Finally, Samerecarm is a good move for when you need to revive fallen teammates and don’t have the items to do so.

Sumire

  • Light Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing
  • Support

While both she and Akechi have access to Light skills, Sumire has superior Blessskills than Akechi if you need to divide and conquer a bit, with Makougaon to deal heavy Bless damage, especially having Bless Amp in her kit. Her Physical Damage output is nothing to sneeze at, either, and with Brave Step to increase your crit rate, Sumire is a must. Use her healing skills when needed to supplement the team.

Makoto

  • Nuclear Magic
  • Physical Damage
  • Healing
  • Support

While the other two focus on damage, Makoto takes a more supportive role here with her party-wide buffsand debuffs, as well as her healing capabilities. She’s got excellent Nuclear skills by now, especially if she went to the Depths of Mementos with you like we suggested, which you can double down on if Joker is using a FirePersona, to ensure she follows up with Nuclearskills on BurnedShadows.
