Wukong Is Getting A 93GB Update On PS5

It’s to be expected that triple-A games as good-looking as Black Myth: Wukong are going to come with pretty hefty file sizes. What you probably weren’t expecting is for Wukong to receive an update more than a year after its release which is almost the same size as the game itself.

The hefty update will be rolled out today, although Game Science hasn’t detailed exactly what it will include. The Wukong studio has simply revealed that the patch will optimize performance and fix bugs. Seemingly no additional content of any description, which is why it’s a little puzzling that, on PS5, the update will require a whopping 93.3GB of free storage before it can be applied.

Today’s Black Myth: Wukong Update Is 93.3GB On PS5

That could mean there’s a very real chance that if you currently have Wukong installed on your PS5, there won’t be enough room for the sizable update when it’s rolled out at some point today. Don’t worry, if that happens, it won’t render Wukong unplayable until you free up some space. Game Science has clarified that even without the 93GB patch, the un-updated version of the game will continue to work.

The studio has also noted that PS5 players who do want to play the most up-to-date version of Wukong but don’t have enough space might want to delete the game entirely and then re-download it with the update applied. While not confirmed, that implies the update won’t simply add 93GB to the 104GB of storage space the 2024 Game of the Year contender already needs. If that were the case, it would mean you need almost 200GB of free space to download the patched version of Wukong.

The hefty update appears to be a PS5-only issue, although Game Science has noted certain PC players might need to make some changes before they apply today’s update. It seems the patch might not play nice with certain mods, as the Wukong studio has advised players to uninstall them before the update is rolled out.

The pre-patch notes include warnings that mods might cause crashes, performance issues, or prevent the game from launching. As for the finer details of what exactly the hefty new update will add to the game, patch notes for each platform will be published later today as the update goes live.

Even though it’s only been a year since Wukong’s hugely successful launch, we’ve already been told about the next game in the series. Black Myth: Zhong Kui was revealed during Gamescom’s ONL, and although we haven’t been told when it will be here, it’s very impressive that Game Science had anything to show at all so soon after Wukong.
