For some reason, Xbox has really leaned into giving away popular, officially licensed Series X|S controllers via contests rather than selling them en masse. It’s at it again as we speak with an official Metaphor: ReFantazio controller revealed to celebrate the 2024 Game of the Year contender’s imminent arrival on Game Pass.
Since the controllers have been created to mark that momentous occasion, the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account had the honor of sharing the good news. Ahead of Metaphor’s arrival on the service on May 29, 2025, Xbox has shown off its official Metaphor: ReFantazio controller. The only caveat is, as you will have guessed by this point, this fancy new controller that every Xbox-owning Metaphor is going to want is a controller that money can’t buy.

You will need to enter a sweepstake if you want to be in with a chance of playing Metaphor on a Metaphor controller, and you can enter that sweepstake right now. You have until May 29 to enter the contest, and all you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is follow the Game Pass account from which the contest announcement was made, and repost the post along with the hashtag #MetaphorRefantazioSweepstakes.
What Better Way To Play It Than Using A Matching Controller?
Even though you are limited to one entry per account, you can double your chances of winning a controller by also entering the contest by doing the same on Bluesky.
The silver lining, and it’s a slim one, is that this is not a one-of-a-kind controller. There are five of them to give away, three through Twitter and two on Bluesky. That significantly ups the odds of you being lucky enough to bag one, but again, while these will be free to the people who win them, I guarantee there are a lot of Metaphor fans reading this right now who wish Xbox would just sell their cool new controllers.
The controller’s design isn’t too busy, like some can be, with a plain white base and core Metaphor characters printed on the handles. The best part of the design is the gold Metaphor-themed stand on which the controller is pictured. I’m assuming the controller and the stand are a package deal, though I’m unable to find confirmation of that in the contest’s terms and conditions.
The run of Xbox limiting controllers it could probably make a fortune selling continues – I’m still reeling from not winning the Deadpool controller with detachable buttocks. On the bright side, its armored Doom: The Dark Ages controller was not limited by a competition. Anyone who wishes to rip and tear through the latest Doom game using one of those can do so by simply paying for one.
