If you’re a Switch 2 owner and you were hoping for a native upgrade for mecha RPG Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, then hope no longer, because Nintendo has granted your wishes.
As revealed in a new trailer, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is now available on Switch 2. That’s right; it’s not coming to the console at some point in the future, but now, and whether you already own the game or not, you can grab it on Nintendo’s new machine.
If you prefer to wait for a physical version, though, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer, because Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition isn’t coming to Switch 2 in physical form until April 16th.
As you might expect from a Switch 2 Edition release, Xenoblade Chronicles X will have enhanced resolution and increased frame rates on Switch 2; Nintendo promises “up to 4K” and “up to 60fps” from the Switch 2 version.
In case you need a reminder, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was released for Switch back in March last year. It is, as the name suggests, a re-release of the 2015 RPG, which was previously exclusive to the Wii U.
The new version doesn’t just give Xenoblade Chronicles X a new coat of paint; it’s also got new story content for you to enjoy, as well as improvements to the game’s UI (and, yes, graphical improvements and tweaks).
If you want to get a sense for how Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition runs on Switch 2, you can check out the new trailer below.
Sadly, there hasn’t been any word on other games in the Xenoblade series getting Switch 2 Editions, so if you were hoping for an upgraded version of the adventure that kicked off the franchise (sort of), you’re out of luck, at least for now.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is available right now for Switch 2 and Switch. The physical version launches on April 16th for Switch 2.
