You’ll Soon Be Able To Chat To Megan While Watching M3GAN

If you are an old person like me, you may think people going on their phones in the cinema is one of the worst forms of anti-social behaviour. You may also have been people hurling popcorn at the screen and bringing live chickens to watch A Minecraft Movie and realised that actually, maybe it can get worse than scrolling through a phone on full brightness.

With rumours of an on-set affair gone sour, what really happened in The White Lotus season three behind the scenes?

Regardless, you may instead be one of those people who enjoys going on their phone during movies. If that’s the case, the new screening of Megan might be for you. To celebrate the release of Megan 2.0 (which I maintain should have been called MEG4N, following the original M3GAN, and giving way to the twin-based threequel MEGAN5 before the series ends with ME6AN), Megan is heading back to cinemas – and this time, you’ll need your phone.

Megan Will Chat To You During New Screenings Of M3GAN

Meta has announced that it is teaming up with Blumhouse, the studio behind the viral killer doll hit, to launch its Movie Mate program, which encourages second screen viewing while in the cinema. The world grew up in is gone. The idea is that, while watching the movie on the big screen, your phone provides you with trivia, BTS secrets, and additional content in real-time. Does this help you enjoy the movie you’re supposed to be watching? Who can say.

Apparently, Meta can. “Movie Mate is only available to moviegoers who are in a theater, and works by DM’ing the Instagram account @M3GAN account to start the experience,” the press release sent to Variety reads. “The entire experience is designed to leverage Meta’s capabilities to augment and uplevel the ‘second screen’ viewing experience aimed at generating excitement ahead of the release of ‘M3GAN 2.0’ on June 27.”

Because we all feel the same way about Courtney Eaton.

If you’ve ever watched a film – maybe even Megan itself – and thought you were missing out on ways to augment and uplevel your second screen viewing experience, your prayers have been answered. It’s not just chatting to a fake robot doll who kills people though, this rerelease has some other, far more normal treats for dedicated fans, including “sneak peeks, exclusive recorded messages from directors and talent from the films, and surprise special appearances in select markets.”

Tickets are available now, with Megan screening on April 30, before Annabelle on May 7 and Ma on May 14.
