Z-A Shiny Pokemon Are Already Being Sold For Silly Money

It seems like members of the Pokemon community will do anything for a quick buck. We’ve seen it recently with the sharp rise in Pokemon Trading Card Game prices, both here and over in Japan, and now it looks like the trend has hit Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Within days of it launching, hackers had begun to figure out ways of getting shiny Pokemon into the game, and shortly after that, those shiny Pokemon made their way onto marketplaces like eBay, with some listings selling for close to $300.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Already Has A Bustling Real-Money Shiny Marketplace

Selling Pokemon on places like eBay isn’t anything new; it’s been seen throughout most Pokemon games since online trading was released, including Pokemon GO, and Legends: Z-A is no different. But the volume and value of the sales are eye-watering.

In the three weeks since its launch, eBay has logged over 1,200 sales of Pokemon Legends: Z-A shinies. These range from individual Pokemon to bundles of multiple shinies and even a complete shiny Dex.

Looking through the sales, the cost for shiny starter Pokemon, and favorites like Eevee and Pikachu tends to be around $8. Other popular Pokemon, like Heracross, Gardevoir, and Garchomp, sit at around $7. The bundles of Pokemon tend to range from anywhere between $20 and $100, depending on how many Pokemon they include, but the complete PokeDex is where things get wild.

So far, at least one player has spent $299 on getting a complete living shiny Dex. It’s an obscene amount of money for what is ultimately hacked Pokemon.

I’m no snob, but I feel that acquiring shiny Pokemon this way defeats the fun. Part of the joy of shiny hunting is the thrill of the chase: working your backside off for numerous hours, only to finally be rewarded with that slightly off-color Slowpoke, or menacing black Camerupt. I’m maybe not adverse to using alternate methods for something like the one in three million Amaura, but for the most part, I think if you really want a shiny Pokemon, go out there and find it. There are certainly methods that make things easier.
