What recent games you played that was visually stunning?
What's up HotFix Gaming fam? I hope that you are doing well. Great list of games as always and I've actually played and beaten them all. I'm so glad to see Atomic Heart on this list. I felt like it was harshly and unfairly criticized, but man oh man was it fun. Also, even those who hated it can't deny how great the art/visual style is. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was my personal favorite game of 2023 and I am still blown away by the level of detail Sony and Insomniac put into it. You could even change certain elements in the settings to make the game look more realistic like lowering motion blur, etc. and it almost makes you feel like an editor at work in the studio. 😅 Despite coming out back in 2018, I'm amazed at how good both Detroit Become Human and Red Dead Redemption 2 still look today. You're absolutely right about a PS5 version needing to be made because as good as it looks now, it would look even better. We're actually coming up on a year since Dead Rising 2 was released and it was definitely one of the best games in 2023, both aesthetically and gameplay wise. Ha! Somehow, I knew you would have Cyberpunk 2077 on this list. Even when it had its issues in the beginning, I was always captivated by the cell shading and detail of characters and environments. Now that CD Projekt Red has fully upgraded it, my above statement rings true even more so.
As you said, it's impossible to just narrow down 10 games without leaving out others. Here are just a few games that I would add as honorable mentions though:
– Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (I know you haven't played it yet, but if/when you do, prepare to be amazed at the level of attention to detail to characters and surroundings, especially during cutscenes. In completing Dondoko Island, Kasuga and his friends were standing on a bridge and as they were speaking, the camera is panning down and you can see the water flowing through the little gaps in between the boards that made up the bridge. It looks so realistic. Also, one scene where Kasuga opens a door. You can see the lifelines in his hands and his skin compresses as he grabs and turns the doorknob. Sega and RGG's Dragon Engine is giving Unreal Engine 5 some serious competition.)
– Tekken 8
– Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
– God of War (2018 and Ragnarok)
– The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
– Batman: Arkham City (I know you already had it on your list of PS3 games that still hold up graphically to this day, but I recently saw a side by side video of it and Gotham Knights and it looked light-years ahead, despite it being over a decade old and Gotham City coming out in late 2022.)
– RoboCop: Rogue City (Although some may say it look outdated, they stay true to the 80s settings and aesthetic. Also, the way that you can destroy cubicles during the bank robbery mission by shooting them full of bullets shows some realistic looking environmental damage.)
