Hunter x Hunter has one of the greatest power systems there is in the form of Nen. Because of how Nen operates, characters wielding it can grow exponentially in strength and skills. However, there are often limits, which can only be surpassed by the very best of this world.
Some characters in Hunter x Hunter have reached a level of strength comparable to that of a god. That includes creatures straight from the Dark Continent, like Meruem, or simple humans who have surpassed their mortal limits, like Isaac Netero.

Don Freecs
- Status: Unknown
- Main Nen Ability: Unknown
- Nen Type: Unknown
Don Freecs is the ancestor of Gon and Ging. He is, however, a complete mystery of the Hunter x Hunter world. What we do know about Don is that he is a legendary figure who is theorized to still be living in the Dark Continent. Little to no information is known about him, but he is the author of the book “Journey to the New World.” While only the East version of the book has been found, he is likely still writing the West Version.
Simply based on the fact that Don has lived for so long in the Dark Continent, we can tell that he must be a monster in terms of power. Not only that, but it would seem he has even attained immortality, being over 300 years old. Don should be the superior version of both Gon and Ging, having honed his skills and talents to the max over centuries.

Beyond Netero
- Status: Alive
- Main Nen Ability: Sacrificial Curse
- Nen Type: Unknown
Beyond Netero is the mysterious son of Isaac Netero, revealed during the Succession Contest arc of Hunter x Hunter. Simply by being the direct son of Isaac Netero, we know that Beyond is a beast of high caliber. We have yet to see Beyond fight in a battle, but it is a known fact that he is an absolute monster.
Beyond Netero is one of the few characters who were able to explore and return from the Dark Continent unscathed. That alone goes to show how powerful he is. Not only is he strong, but he is a scheming master like no other. Beyond has thought decades ahead and concocted complicated curses to place on his children to achieve his ambitions. When Beyond is finally allowed to showcase his full power, it will definitely be a sight to behold, and he may even surpass Isaac Netero’s performance.

Adult Gon
- Status: Alive
- Main Nen Ability: Jajanken
- Nen Type: Enhancer
Gon Freecs is the main character of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter. Gon was always skilled, and he learned Nen quickly, with his strength and determination pushing him forward. In the Chimera Ant arc, however, Gon was faced with an unbearable situation.
After holding out hope for Kite’s recovery, Pitou broke the news of Kite’s death to him. This Enraged Gon, who then decided to sacrifice all the Nen he would ever have to reach his peak form, referred to in the fandom as Adult Gon. Adult Gon proved to be a god-level power-up, allowing him to destroy Neferpitou effortlessly in battle. Upon seeing Gon’s adult form, even Pitou was worried for Meruem’s safety. With Gon having burnt out all his Nen, however, he has completely lost his powers and become a regular boy with no special abilities.

Isaac Netero
- Status: Dead
- Main Nen Ability: 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva
- Nen Type: Enhancer
Isaac Netero was largely recognized as one of the most competent Hunters of all time. He led the Hunters Association as its chairman for years, and his mastery over Nen was almost unrivaled. For years in his youth, Netero trained ardently until mastering his craft down to its minutest details. His mastery was clear as day when he unleashed his ultimate ability, 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, against Meruem.
While Netero ultimately lost his fight, he was far from his peak at that point, and he was fighting a monster of a high level. Netero showcased god-level mastery over Nen, which even allowed him previously to explore the Dark Continent. To be able to go into the Dark Continent and return unscathed is a major feat only a few have achieved throughout their lifetime.
2
Meruem
- Status: Dead
- Main Nen Ability: Aura Synthesis
- Nen Type: Emission
Meruem is largely recognized as the most powerful antagonist in Hunter x Hunter. He was the main enemy of the Chimera Ant arc, and he was a monstrously powerful entity right from birth, being born as the Ant King. Meruem possessed strength like no other. His Nen ability, Aura Synthesis, allowed him to expand his Nen reserves and gain new abilities with every new living being he consumed.
In the Chimera Ant arc, he came face to face with Netero and quickly outclassed the old man. Netero had to make use of his ultimate trick, Old Man’s Rose, to take him down. Even the explosion by itself wasn’t enough to kill Meruem, and only after succumbing to the poison was he finally defeated and humanity spared. His overwhelming powers and abilities make him a God of the Hunter x Hunter world. What’s even scarier is that he attained this power at just 40 days of age. Had he been allowed to grow further, even for just a couple of months, he would have become an unstoppable force.
1
Nanika
- Status: Alive
- Main Nen Ability: Wish Granting
- Nen Type: Specialization
If there is one character in Hunter x Hunter that can be qualified as a God, it’s definitely the mysterious creature from the Dark Continent brought back by the Zoldyck, Nanika. Nanika possesses the same body as Alluka Zoldyck, Killua’s younger sister. Her aura reserves are simply boundless from what we’ve seen in the story. She has the ability to make any wish come true, no matter how grandiose it is. However, this usually comes with a catch: Nanika might make an impossible or extremely difficult request that, if one can’t complete, will result in death on the spot.
The only exception to that is Killua, whom she cares greatly about. With the power of Nanika, Killua was able to achieve the impossible. He was able to heal Gon from what was otherwise a fatal condition that he succumbed to after sacrificing his Nen in the Chimera Ant arc. While Nanika hasn’t been greatly involved in the plot for the time being, she is with Killua, and her abilities could come back into effect at any time.
Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi is available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
