Deadlock Fan Adds Gordon Freeman To The Roster

Every other week, there’s a Half-Life 3 leak or rumour (or at least, a ‘HLX’ leak or rumour), and while it definitely appears to be taking shape – and hopefully gets announced soon – it’s hard to shake the feeling that the game is impossibly out of reach. Thankfully, modder Grelgn has something to tide us over with while we wait for Valve to drop the bombshell we’re all dying for: a Gordon Freeman skin for Venator in Deadlock.

It’s a full-circle moment for Deadlock, which began development under the name Citadel as a Half-Life spin-off set during the Seven Hour War. It originally would have taken us back to the Eastern European metropolis that would later become City 17 in a battle against the Combine and various Xen critters, like antlions, who would still be pouring out from interdimensional portals. Gordon does feel a little out of place in Deadlock now, sure, but it’s incredible to see our favourite MIT graduate back in action, with an over-the-top arsenal befitting his prophetic status.

Grelgn Is Bringing G-Man To Deadlock Next

“Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life game series, featuring deleted 90+ voice lines,” the description reads. “There are 2 main versions […] Regular: Uses rebar as heavy melee to work with crossbow animation, crowbar appears when Blessed meleeing. Crowbar: Always uses the crowbar for the heavy melee, but looks silly when reloading the crossbow.”

Meet The Half-Life Fan Making A New Spin-Off After 24 Years

The Black Ops assassins are finally getting their own expansion, courtesy of the fan-led development team Pipeline Software.

The mod also comes with an optional file that changes the sound effects of the MP5 and SPAS12 to their Half-Life counterparts, making the Gordon skin feel even more authentic. Grelgn is also toying with the idea of adding HEV voicelines, “but replacing stuff like item effects or melee sounds etc. would change it globally (even when you’re not playing as Gordon),” so it would be more of a Deadlock overhaul than skin specific.

Gordon won’t be the last Half-Life character they add, either, as they have already teased G-Man in the mod trailer. “Going to release him next,” they clarified on the r/HalfLife subreddit. “Still a bit of work to do.”

For now, you can download the Gordon Freeman mod here.
