British actor Martin Bobb-Semple has been cast in Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series.
Bobb-Semple – who portrays Orlando ‘Lando’ Johnson on The CW’s All American: Homecoming – will star alongside Sophie Turner’s Lara Croft on the series’ debut.
Little is currently known about Bobb-Semple’s part in Tomb Raider, though according to Variety, he will be a series regular. This will be a “major role” for the actor to sink his teeth into, the publication added.
While nothing has been confirmed, there has been speculation online that Bob-Semple will play Lara’s friend and tech-expert Zip, a character introduced in the games’ Legend timeline.
In addition to the announced cast members, Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge will serve as the Tomb Raider series’ creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken, meanwhile, will be director and executive producer, along with Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer. Filming is expected to kick off early next year, on 19th January. The show does not yet have a release date.
Along with the TV series, Amazon is also working with Crystal Dynamics on the next Tomb Raider game.
As well as Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series, Netflix also has its own animated series known as The Legend of Lara Croft. The second and final season of Netflix’s anime is due to air on 11th December. “When adventurer Lara Croft discovers a trail of stolen African Orisha masks, she joins forces with her best friend Sam to retrieve the precious artifacts,” reads the season two description.
A trailer for the second season of The Legend of Lara Croft was shared last month.
