Call of Duty campaigns haven’t enjoyed unanimous praise in a long time, but Modern Warfare 4 is breaking that trend. Despite the game not officially launching until the 23rd of October, early‑access players have already flooded Steam with thousands of reviews, and the response is unusually strong, with 93% of reviews recommending the campaign.
Pre‑order customers gained access to the single‑player story on the 16th of October, giving them a full week to finish the campaign before competitive multiplayer unlocks later this week.
Normally, Steam reviews don’t appear during these early‑access windows, but Modern Warfare 4 is already accumulating substantial feedback, and much of it is unusually positive. Players are praising the visuals, but more importantly, many say this is the best Call of Duty campaign in years.
While the campaign and multiplayer are separate modes, core systems like movement and the game’s weapon lineup carry across both. These elements have also been praised in early impressions, suggesting that multiplayer‑focused players have plenty to look forward to when the full game launches on the 23rd.
As the game is still technically unreleased, all current Steam reviews display a “0 hours played” tag, so we don’t yet have a clear indication of campaign length. However, if Modern Warfare 4 follows the pattern of recent entries, the story will likely come in at around six to eight hours.
KitGuru says: The Modern Warfare campaigns have long been a favourite of mine, so I’m looking forward to finally getting to jump in. Have any of you tried the Modern Warfare 4 campaign yet? Does it deserve the high praise?
